Tajhat Palace - Elegance beyond Aesthetics!

This royal Palace from the early 20th century has a huge historical as well as architectural significance in our country. It's located in the Northern part of Bangladesh; Rangpur and is one of the major attractions of the area. There's no other palace like this one and tourists love to have a glimpse of the history and beauty of this place.

It was built by a Hindu merchant named Gopal Lal Roy and later, it was renovated many times and now operates as a museum. He appointed 2000 workers and invested 1.5 million at that time to build this beautiful structure.

Can you imagine how much it will cost on today's date?

Whenever I visit this palace, the work of white stone on the stairs, the marble floor, the fancy lanterns, and the beauty of the limestone and the red brick blow my mind away.

Today I'm going to show you the architectural beauty and some detailed work of the palace.

The west-faced palace was mainly a residential house of the builder. As he was a rich merchant and landowner so people used to come there to have different business meetings as well. So it became kind of like the capital of business discussion, entertainment center, and relaxing zone at that time.

There are three parts of the palace, one was for the owner's residential area- the main palace, one for the servants, and the last one was "Baijy Bari" - the female entertainers.

Here is the detailed info about the palace which I got from the museum.

Understanding its architectural value, the district government decided to shift the museum here in 2005. And from then, it became a popular tourists spot. Before that, this palace was used as the office of the district high court.

There are many terracotta artifacts, manuscripts, black stone Hindu gods, and some other daily life products of Muguls and different rulers from Bangla.

Photography is not permissible inside the museum. So if you have an interest in history, it's better to give the place a visit.

This was the main residential area of the palace. The upper floor was for the owner and the lower one was for different officials and assistants.

I have heard that the balcony was for the wife of the owner to observe the fair in the front yard or give any command from there.

The detailing of the art on the palace wall is such a beauty. I can remember it was much more precise before renovation. And the color of the wall was a bit off-white back then. After renovation, it looks more like a modern structure, which I don't like personally.

Many locals still believe that treasures are hidden in the palace or in the wall as the owner of the palace was a jeweler. Moreover, the name of the palace Tajhat comes from 'Taj' - which means a crown, and 'Hat' - which means market. Probably that's another reason for their belief!

There are many decorative lanterns, and fountains that resemble the architecture of the Romans and Muguls as well.

The renovation is not done inside of the building. so you can see the accurate architectural work there.

The floor, the art on the wall, the high chilling, the detail works on the doors and windows; everything elaborates how elegant this palace is, it's beyond aesthetic.

This stair was for the cleaners who were not allowed to visit inside the house. Also, it is used as an emergency exit.

The inside garden was for the females and the owner's wife. There are three ponds on the premises and hundreds of trees.

Back in the 90s, when we visited the palace as junior schoolers, we visited inside of the rooms as well. Now, it's not available for the tourists. I can remember, there were some beds and furniture inside the rooms that were well preserved. I'm not sure if they are still in them or if they moved to other museums.
