Rebellion Packs Ready To Be Flipped?

Untitled.png

Readers,

"Some of us are new here, tell us what Rebellion Packs are"

Answer:

Rebellion Booster Packs are Splinterland assets that hold five cards (NFT's) that are playable in-game. Out of these five NFT's one is guaranteed to be a rare or better. These and other NFT's are tradable within the official Splinterlands site and on many secondary markets. Cards can be used to win rewards in tournaments and ranked play or staked on land to earn SPS and Grain. There is also a rental market where cards can be listed for rent.

Readers,

"Thanks; that explains Rebellion Packs but what is Splinterlands"

Answer:

I sometimes forget someone new might be stumbling upon my created content not knowing what the heck I'm talking about. Rebellion? Splinterlands? What are these things? The Answer: Splinterlands is a play2earn game that is hosted on the Hive Blockchain. Splinterland cards (NFTs) can be used to win assets that hold real monetary value. Splinterlands has its own on-site trading platform (trading and gaming all possible from the same site). There are also many secondary markets in which you can trade your Splinterlands assets on including but not limited to Hive Dex's such as TribalDex and Hive-Engine. Flipping Rebellion Packs

First let me explain what I mean by Flipping Packs. In the world of Splinterlands Flipping Packs refers to purchasing available NFT Booster Packs, opening them and reselling the contents in hopes that you get the cost of the pack back. This is done in an effort to make some profits, either in currency or held cards. Today I was scrolling some Splinterlands content and stumbled upon a post by Tsnaks named: What to expect from Rebellion packs. Inside that post was all sorts of useful content so we recommend you give it a read if you got the time to do so. One such thing was the current value of an opened Rebellion Pack weighted against the cost of the pack itself.

image.png

If we take a look at the screenshot above we can see that all but two editions (Rebellion & CHAOS) that are available for trade on Hive-Engine (TribalDex) have contents inside valued below the purchased cost of the pack itself. That means at current time, if you are purchasing packs from secondary markets the best bang for your buck are Rebellion Packs. The current USD value of a Rebellion Pack on Hive-Engine is $3.89. On average the current (12/20/2023) value of the contents in a Rebellion Pack is $4.12 USD. That means there is a $0.23 USD profit window. Now on the surface that looks great but don't forget about the fine print that reads "Pack estimated value using list price, both potions & a gold cap". Meaning if you have to purchase your potions, you will need to add that cost into your cost/profit calculations. As for the gold cap, upon further investigation it looks like the site in which I taken the above screenshot from (https://splintercards.com/) is using a $5,000 Gold Foil Legend Cap. Meaning they are valuing a Gold Foil Legend at a max value of $5,000 USD when making these calculations. Doing a little exploring I can see that the Splintercards site has a manual calculator. So lets see the exact numbers that brings us to these calculations. When I input the Hive-Engine pack price and make use of the Free Potions earned from ranked play the below screenshot are the results.

Profits When Purchasing Potions

Conclusion:

If a person already has potions sitting in their account, earned from ranked play or otherwise currently it is possible to make a profit flipping Rebellion Packs. However if we need to calculate the cost of purchasing potions the profit margin of flipping packs is flipped on its head. We go from an estimated profit of $0.23* USD when using potions we attained for free to a loss of $0.23 USD when using potions we traded currency for. In fairness the fun of opening a pack far outweighs any $0.23 USD loss. I am also of the mindset that on average the contents inside a pack isn't suppose to be equal to or greater than the cost of the pack itself (Doesn't sound sustainable to me). My reasoning: the value of the contents inside a pack will grow through time similar to how traditional card collecting works. For investors we are trading the now cost of the pack for the potential future value of the pack/ contents inside. For those who play the game the now value of these packs shouldn't be the USD worth returned when opening but the value they bring when playing the Splinterlands game. Cards bring value via staking on land, ranked play, tournaments and can be resold. The immediate shown USD value of the contents inside doesn't tell the whole story.

Disclaimer:

Keep in mind the above calculations don't mean you are guaranteed to get the displayed value when opening a pack. The profit numbers displayed above are not guaranteed. I repeat the profit numbers displayed above are not guaranteed. However using the above calculation one can get a decent idea on what to expect when opening a large amount of packs. The more you open the more likely your profits come to the numbers displayed in this post and on Splintercards (again, not guaranteed). Opening just a handful could net you a very wide range of profits or lack there of. The @rentmoney blog is for entertainment purposes only and does not contain any financial advice. This shows a really strong future for Rebellion packs and the conflicts are not even live yet.

It will be interesting to see where the value of REBELLION is headed and what the value will be once Sold Out. We might be back on track for profitable HOLDing of packs for resale (after Splinterlands sells out their supply).

Interesting check on Rebellion packs. Look at Chaos packs at $0.93 I was buying at $0.73 just a month ago.

Nice move on your part.
You purchased near the bottom.
I recently sold a chunk of my CHAOS due to hedging against a HIVE Bull Run.

At below $1 a pop, its hard to not open them.

The fun far outweighs the $1 traded for them.

Yes, but I wonder, would not the prices go down as more packs are opened and more cards will flood the market? They are a big total number thought.

Historically pack/card prices dip for the active set being sold sometime during the official pack sale. This time around Splinterlands introduced a pack burn right out the gate so that might help fight the usual dip. But in the end what trade value these will have in the future is anyone's guess.

I haven't dived in with Rebellion yet.

I still got a stack of CHAOS. I sold a large portion over the past weeks.

There are absolutely good things, whenever such updates come, people on top of the project become too much of it.
