Splinterlands: A Look Back At Reward Card Prices

avatar
(Edited)

I was browsing some of my older Splinterland topics and came across some interesting ones in which had the price of some of the Reward cards embedded in them. Naturaly this got me curious as to how the price of these cards held up.

Keep in mind some of these screen shots date back to 2019. Which means some Rewards cards we see in the market today were not printed yet. Thus the reason for not seeing them in our price comparison below.

COMMON Reward Card Prices On 12/07/1019

Rewards common card conclusion:

For anyone who invested in the Common Rewards Collection in 2019 the returns they would have got in less than 1.5 years is amazing. Some of these commons have risen 9/10X in value within a relatively short period of time.

I still see allot of value in these common cards. For example the Highland Archer has the smallest increase of just $0.01 USD. To be fair a $0.01 increase still represents a 33% increase in the cards value which is nothing to sneeze at. With the highest Rewards Card out of this lot being sold for $0.29 USD that leaves allot of room for price growth for the commons that can still be purchased for just pennies.

I personally think the Highland Archer is one of the better cards out of this particular group of Commons and currently its the most affordable one to purchase out of the lot displayed.

Sadly I didn't record the price of Rare/Epic Reward Cards but I did manage to find one of my past topics that had screen shot proof showing the prices of Reward Legendary cards (On the date of 10/31/2019). Considering Reward Cards are originally attained for free via playing the awesome game that is Splinterlands, the USD value of these cards are nothing short of amazing.

Just as we seen with the Common Rewards cards the Legendary Gold Reward Cards have also seen massive increases in value. The largest jump in price is the Gold Card Lord Arianthus which went from a USD value of $110 to $1000 in just 1.5 years.

Will the value of these Legendary Gold Cards keep going up?? No-one knows for sure but looking at the raw data $105 for a Sacred Unicorn seems like a steal of a deal!

Did I just talk you into purchasing some of these awesome cards?? No worries because I have also talked myself into purchasing some as well. It looks like @dkid14 has some fairly priced Highland Archers and other cards for sale so I'll happily purchase a dozen of them.

$13M... I'm sure it was $10M just two weeks ago.

Thanks for this... I've been curious about the rewards cards in particular.. but it looks like all the cards have increased quite a lot over time. I did a post about the increase in the value of my collection over time and it's honestly incredible.

Its surprising looking at some of the USD card value increases in such a small amount of time. The 13+ Million marketcap surprised me as well. Fingers crossed that both keep going up.

I'll have to go visit your blog and read your post about your collection.

Fingers crossed!

It's so weird that something I'm just totally enjoying playing around with is also dramatically increasing in value. That's not the way these things usually work.

Here is my post... I know I don't have a huge collection compared to most players, but I have been regularly keeping track of the overall value:

Isn't that the truth ......

Thanks for the link,

Looks like a nice collection to me.
I see you were lucky enough to hit an UNTAMED GFL (Phantom of the Abyss).

Seems like they grow in value pretty quickly! Can't wait to see what untamed going out of print will do for that. And of course where my own cards will be in a year since I just started about 2 months ago (maybe less)

It does seem that way.

Keep stacking those cards, hopefully history repeats itself and the price of UNTAMED increases as well. If not at least we will have fun playing the Splinterlands game!

Imagine it will, over time not sure how long. But indeed if anything it's just fun playing and building the deck :-)

Sigh... I burned a gold foil Sacred Unicorn and I sold a gold Lord A for I don't even remember but I can assure you it wasn't $1000 fucking dollars. I rarely keep gold cards if I can fetch a good enough price for them to upgrade something, but lately I've been trying to resist. This post probably just set that new mindset in stone! Thanks for sharing this. I may retire off this mother fucker after all.

Ouch on the burn but who knows its possible you faired better than you think with the upgrades you purchased.

Interesting fact: The very first booster pack I purchased, under the very first card I flipped, there was an Alpha Gold Dragon (I never flipped a GFL since).

Thanks for sharing this. I may retire off this mother fucker after all.

You're Welcome, Fingers crossed we all get to retire from our crypto holdings.

OMG, man! That's a long fucking time to go without a GFL fix. I feel like I get one or two a year, but most come from rewards... I snatch up a few packs a month sometimes, but most of my collection is from playing like a maniac for the first year or so. I can say with about 99%+ certainty, though, that after seeing how they jumped in price this year, I'll watch my own balls freeze off and shatter on the ground on the coldest day in hell before I think about burning another one, gold or not.

I burned a bunch of gelatinous cubes when they were only a penny each, and last time I looked (during the height of it all) they were $.09. Never again.

Lol...except I've been thinking about doing a weekly burn of something to create a "hostage situation" for the hardcore folks. Make a demand of 10% over market value or I light it up. But, nah. I only pretend to be an asshole...

I can't bring myself to burn a card. When the burn feature was first introduced I burned one Rusty Android just to test the feature. The squeaky rusty screams that came out of MR.Rusty that day while being burned still haunt me.

A weekly Splinterlands Card burn post could generate some interest amoung the Monster Maniacs.

Yeah, but the premise of holding it hostage for higher than market value pretty much guarantees I spend a lot of money and piss off a lot of people for no return. Lol. I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer but I’m pretty sure that’s not a path to financial stability or social grace.

You would be correct, I was more thinking of a post that burns a card based on the authors share of rewards it generates. For example if the weekly post generates $0.09 in liquid author rewards one could purchase and then burn a gelatinous cube.

Oh snap!! It's a different story if people are encouraging through voting. Ha ha! I'm just a man of the people beholden to their will. That's even more dickish. I love it!

This is a good post that would probably be suited for the Proof of Brain tag, as well. It's a new token, but it's been doing really well. It's dropped like everything else but it's still over $0.40 as of writing.

Thanks for the info,

I got an idea for a similar post so I will use the Proof of Brain tag then. I been away from most online activities for months so I got some catching up to do with learning about all the new HIVE apps.

Good to see this post!
I really didn't realize how much everything has gained.
That is awesome to see. It makes me want to keep stacking those cards and opening those packs. Every now and then that gold flash shows up....Now it just needs to be on a legendary card. :)

It sure is crazy to see the gains.

Stack away friend, hopefully we get an influx of players and the price keeps on the upward trend.

I believe that in the beginning of 2020 prices were falling and those who bought at this time may have had an even greater gain. Thank you for sharing it. :)

Thanks for the added infomation.

Seems like the only bad play with Splinterlands is if one didn't invest at all :)
