🔍 VOICE - The new social media platform on EOS launched?

Hello!

Last June 2019 a new social network called VOICE was announced by Brendan Blumer (Co-founder and CEO of block.one) and Daniel Larimer (The father of Steem and EOS).

At first it seemed a very interesting idea, they proposed a new social network where all individuals were verified (no-bots), and with a token that could be tradable in the future they gamified interactions and influence.

So, I decided to request my access to the beta. It was the 7th of June of 2019.

What happened next?

Some months later they decided to open the Beta for United State citizens. Their argument was that they wanted to launch gradually while getting the feedback of the users.

The final date for the launch was scheduled by the 4th of July, yesterday/today depending on the country you live in. And I checked again to see if I have my account verified and I can test the platform.

And...

Surprise! I still don't have access to my account.

They just opened worldwide the reading of posts. Anyone can access the platform to read posts from registered users, even if you are not one of them (If you are non-US citizen).
You can also sort posts by most active, most recent, most liked or most voiced but you can't read the comments of the posts.

The interface looks clean and simple but I don't see the point of letting users read posts (not comments), and don't let them interact with the platform.

Basically they postponed the launch of VOICE 3 times:

  1. Announcement of VOICE (it was supposed to launch that date too)
  2. VOICE opened just for US citizens.
  3. VOICE launched for readers worldwide.

Will the 4th launch be the real one? I hope so.

Voice platform looks really promising as it is poised on changing the narratives of the web2 social media.

I requested access months ago. Still awaiting approval

But now I think HIVE it is 100 times better!

I have been on Voice almost since they launched. I think the tokenomics are interesting. Everybody gets a basic allowance of 100 Voice tokens every day, except you have to claim them. You can also earn tokens through comments on your posts and after getting likes on your posts. So, besides your free tokens, you can earn more tokens depending how popular your posts are.

You can spend your tokens by bidding on a banner space at the top of individual posts. For now, if you get the highest bid, you are announced as the winner. Later, I think we'll be able to use those top positions to advertise whatever we want.

It's still in development.

I can't quite seem to find my place at Voice. The community is very . . . terse. My impression is that it doesn't have much spirit. Perhaps it will come in time.

As much as I dislike Block.One and the EOS project, I gotta say that Voice has a pretty neat UI.

Not too hot on having to be KYCed to join their network though... what's the point of touting free-speech if you can't be pseudonymous...

They are trying to get rid of bots and fake engagement.

Social media users here on the respective blockchains can be very tribal, though that may be the devs pushing it. Traders also love their little tokens like kids. Hive users may be reluctant to side with the "enemey" at Voice, Larimer yet again providing a supposed platform for free speech. well, we saw what happened to Steemit, it crashed. And EOS is questionable, as is DpoS, even here on Hive. As for the KYC, how free is your speech if you can be targeted for saying it? I am skeptical, but your post has at least garnerd an interest so let's see...

My vision is that Social Media 3.0 will take it's place, the path forward can take several years but I think that at some point we'll make the shift.
