Car Valet Farse and a Rational Portable Vacuum Decision!

I've been very slack with cleaning my car recently, I took it for a wash for the first time in more than a year last week, and WHAT A HASSLE!

I had intended to get a full mini-valet, outside and in service... it REALLY needed both! I figure I'll be driving around Herefordshire from next week interviewing for my job, so may as well clean the car... I don't want to be pulling up in people's driveways with a dirty car, that could even cost me an interview, some people are STRANGE like that!

Anyway, being a tightwad I drove to the local garage where I know there's a DIY vacuum.... three cars queuing for, and WORSE a dodderer puzzling over the pay machine, NO!

So I decided to drive to a local drive-through wash near the sports centre, which took about 10 minutes given the local traffic.

I queued for 5 minutes before a guy came out and told me the roof bars on my car meant I couldn't go through the washer... so I had to exit the wrong way round their one way system which was a pain.

So I drove to another not so nice car wash service and their mini-valet was £25 rather than the £20 at the nicer one I had been at, but the second service did a simple wash and go for £7.

I got to thinking in that queue... what do I actually get for that extra £18.... I mean £7 seems REALLY cheap, but an extra £18 for the internal clean....

While I was there I looked up a few mini vacs on Amazon...

So basically for just over £20 I can get what I need to hoover the damned car myself.... wiping down the doors etc is something I can do with damned cloths and a bucket which I already have so I just opted for the wash and go and I'll bloody well buy myself the DIY equipment.

NB I can't use my house hoover as I can't park the car close enough to the house to be able to use it, no way am I draping an extension cable over a path, some litigation twat might 'trip' on it and sue me, not worth the risk!

Same goes for buying my own pressure washer... I just don't have my own drive, one can't really pressure wash one's own car out on the public road!

Anyways, I did take a second trip back to the garage with the pay hoover, still a three car queue, different cars, but same old shit.

The whole shabacle took me around 90 minutes but at least I now know I is gonna me a handheld vacuum!

Small wins!

Not having a drive does make things difficult, but there are plenty of cordless vacuums out there. As with most things you have to decide what is worth paying for. There is a hand car wash up the road from us that seems to do okay. Such things are thinly spread here.

There's a few in Hereford but they all seem really busy all the time. Lots of drivers with dirty country cars! Must get that hoover!

Oh man I feel you! My car is a dumpster on wheels these days. Did a whole house renovation and move with it. Bags of concrete and what have you. These holidays I’ll do the same and give it a deep clean inside and out!

It’s bad, but I hardly used it the last two months. 🤘

I've mixed feelings about car washes (my erstwhile local). Cordless vacuum cleaners, on the other hand, were made for me.

Well at least he was working for a living. He was deported in 2021 apparently!

hahaha the biggest hassle of all times! I prefer to let the rain do the outside washing in general, but the inside of the car i really starting to turn into a next level swine-pit at my place.

I was already also thinking about one of these hand held vacuum thingies...also sweet for in the house actually! Maybe it will be a sweet last minute christmas gift even ;)
