I should cheque in with my share funds more often!

So I bought 250 shares in the Fundsmith Emerging Equities Trust about a decade ago, and then paid the fund very little attention.

I did this on the back of the main Fundsmith shares I had doing very well, I more than doubled my Vest on them in 8 years and so cashed them in to buy land back in late 2020, thankfully the amount I made in total came in just under the capital gains limit for that year.

I kind of wish I'd kept them as they've continued to grow, but I digress....

The Emerging Equities Fund has done much less well, with only a measly 20% gain over a decade, but you can't win them all, at least it's up.

I had planned to hold onto them going forwards, but I noticed a few days ago that the fund had been liquidated over a year ago (!) and cheques sent out to shareholders...

Of which I am one, and one whose cheque basically went to my old address without me having any idea this had happened.

It's an odd quirk that I probably didn't give them an email, and I certainly didn't inform them of my change of address.

But anyway, I contacted the company and it's no real problem, other than I have to send them a cheque for just under £100 for 'admin' fees to cover their cancelling the cheques and re-administering them to my new address...

A cheque, and in writing!!!

How quaint!!! I have to write confirming my old and new addresses and then send them the cheque and they post cheques to me, feels like the 19th century, but I liked that century, Cholera, high infant mortality, racism and gender oppression withstanding.

I guess the lesson is... I should check my share funds more often, that £100 is a fair chunk of the profits I made, but at least I haven't lost the funds.

TBH maybe I got lucky, the cash-out is still ongoing, still live because of delays with Indian accounting procedures apparently, so I've got a while.

But I guess this is a trip to the library tomorrow to print something, given that I don't have a damned printer at home!

I did make sure to store my share certificate safely, at least! Although ironically I don't even need that!

As I am getting older , I am starting to find more productive recovering things from the past , rather than creating new ones

Funny because I came across a cheque book last week whilst looking for something else. I am sure you could still use one and they would be valid, but it would feel odd.

It is a fact that patience is very special and you have waited for a long time and now you have got your money in excess, that is why it is said that if you invest money anywhere. If we do, we should be patient, Profit will surely be found.
