Late January Check in with the Allotment....

It's ALMOST time to start sewing a few things for this 2024 growing season, so I thought I'd swing by the allotment to see what kind of state it's in before I get stuck in, probably next week or the week after...

Not much going on....

Which is both good and bad. On the plus side, it's about as tidy as I left it when I was last up around six weeks ago.....

On the other hand I had hoped the onions I Planted in early December would have done a little more...

So that's a bit disappointing.

Something else I'd noticed is that mice have been eaten some of my stored food, or maybe it's rats, there's a problem with both on the allotments, being dealt with centrally I'm glad to say. I found a dead mouse in my shed, I assume it had been poisoned, it was pretty grim.

But I might get myself a couple of traps just to make extra sure.

I miss Wilkos...

Usually around this time of year I would have swung by Wilkos to get a few early veg seeds and other bits, but now that's gone I either have to rely on Poundland which is a bit shit, or drive to nearest garden centre, which is more expensive, or buy online, which requires planning....

So I need a plan...

I've got a few broad beans left over from last year and onions and garlic to sew, but I need to get an order in so I can start sewing proper by end of next week is the goal, or at the latest what would have been half term when I was a teacher, but is now just a regular week.

I also need to get a proper composting system in place and set up a little cold frame, that's all I've got, but I've got some decent glass on the plot for this, framed and everything, just needs putting together!

But I do need to get ahead of this, I think that's one for THIS WEEK.... Get a month by month plan in place and buy what I need in advance!!!

It's exciting to get going again!

I will try to grow something this year, but we want to rearrange the garden a bit, so I'll have to see what space I can use. It's always good to have some home-grown produce. I hope your allotment is productive.

There is still snow on my site. In March I will go to my garden plot and will be glad to see how it is there.

Month by month plan is a very good way to as you will keep updating and keep on planning ahead.

Happy weekend to you.

I'm counting the days until I can start planting... anything! But the snow must melt first.
It's lovely and gives me hope just seeing your dirt!
