Vaping could me more addictive than smoking...

The standard size of vape juice you can buy in any one the several VAPE SHOPS you'll find in any UK town these days is 10ML, and the strength of juice varies from 3MG of nicotine (the lowest nicotine strength) to 20 MG of nicotine per ml of liquid.

If you take one of these bad boys, the Voopoo Drag X...

Screenshot (200).png

Which has a vape juice receptacle with a 2ML capacity and assume a vaper gets through a good bowl a day then:

  • The LOWEST strength liquid = 3MG * 2ML = 6MG of nicotine in a day.
  • The HIGHEST strength liquid = 20MG * 2ML = 40MG of nicotine in a day.

That is a staggering difference, which I think in cigarette terms could well range from party smoker to a 40 a day habit!

How much nicotine is in cigarettes...?

It's quite difficult to get accurate stats on this as there is such a variety of strength, but according to healthline...

"On the low end, a single cigarette may contain about 6 milligrams (mg) of nicotine. On the high end, about 28 mg"

However, a lot of that burns off and the site estimates that you'll inhale somewhere between 1 and 1.8 grams of nicotine per cigarette.

Taking the average of this... 1.4 that means with...

  • 10 cigarettes a day you're on 14MG of nicotine
  • 20 a day = 28MG
  • 30 a day = 42MG

So vaping COULD INCREASE you're addiction to nicotine if you're not careful!

If you're turning to vaping to quit smoking, you need to really careful about how many you smoke on average a day. If you're a 20 day person, which sounds like a lot these days, then you want around a 12MG vape juice.

If you're coming off only 10 a day, and hitting the 20MG and doing a bowl a day you could be more than doubling your nicotine intake!

Of course it all varies

I imagine wattage of the vape, and how long you keep the smoke down plays a role too, of course, as it would for nicotine consumption and cigarettes.

I guess the point, is you probably don't need to go anywhere near the 20MG juice unless you're a serious 20+ a day smoker.

Not point risking getting MORE addicted to nicotine via tech!

And there are 0 nicotine juices, but I can't really see the point in that! Unless you're Gen Z in which case do what you like, the world will have gone to shit by the time you develop any smoking or vaping related illnesses, and nothing any of you do makes any sense to me anyway!

I think this and narghile are as much hazardous as cigarette, perhaps much more. I hope you will quit them all ;)

So far the regular vaping hasn't got too many nasty side effects, you do lose lung capacity, but it's nothing compared to smoking.

Still to early to measure the proper long term effects, but you'd imagine there are plenty of studies already running!

It's about pushing addictive drugs and it seems they are trying to recruit the next generation now. I am quite surprised our PM wants to discourage smoking as his lot have been in with the industry. I've just avoided these things all my life and my kids don't smoke as far as I know.

They're starting to regulate it here, restrict it. So many young kids have taken to it...Gen Z people I guess.

I mean it should be a bit more regulated, I'm sure it's the same as in the UK... These disposable vapes are everywhere, we've got THREE vape shops in Hereford and it's quite small, then Poundland and every newsagent!

The anti-vaping campaigners are growing in number here which I think is a good thing considering the health hazards; the practice of vaping certainly has a strong following though; so many out there with dependencies.

Let's say it's good that you like this juice, it's also very good for your health and it's good that smoking cigarettes destroys a person's health anyway. So many are good.

I don't use either and I'm quite happy and I'm pretty sure they're both addictive. Giving up cigarettes and starting to use them is like giving up whiskey and drinking raki.

Oh you are certainly better off doing neither, that is for sure!

I did use vapes for sometime as a replacement to fags. There were very little studies done on them back then. Now there are many studies showing adverse effects. Here in the Netherlands flavored fags and vapes are facing strict restrictions- it is only for the better.

I think it depends on the type of vape, it does need regulating!

Vaping definitely does increase you nicotine tolerance. As someone who has smoked since I was 15 ( over 35yrs ago) , I've had an on/off battle with baccy my entire adult life.

I used vapes as a "healthier" option and a way to get off of nicotine... bad move..at least with a cigarette or rolly, you light it,smoke it and stub it, no such constraints with vapes, and you can vape indoors.

I found my nicotine consumption going up, and up, and up, until I really had to quit the vapes and that proved just as hard as the cigarettes, 3 months off them now, so here goes nothing.... aiming to stay that way, but man !, vaping was not the answer !!

Well either way you look at it nicotine is addictive, but at least vaping is a safer altertentave, and I imagine easier on the pocket book as well?
