Your Well Known Combinations Of Strikes Might Not Work

When you practice martial arts, you do a lot of things that are good for the training. Even if you fight in a fighting competition, you can do well. But that might not work in a fight for self-defense.

You usually practice different combinations of punches, kicks, and other strikes. You know how to use it in a combination. You can use them instantly. Your opponent might find it difficult to block your strikes.

When you fight for self-defense, a lot of factors can change the whole situation. You have totally a different mindset when you fight to win a trophy, and that's a fair fight. It is clear what your opponent can or cannot do. So it goes by the rules. If someone breaks the rules, necessary action will be taken quickly.

You are good at fighting, but if the attacker has a weapon, that gives him a clear advantage. You might take a punch. It might not make that much damage. It can make way more damage when the attacker stabs you with a knife.

The attacker can punch you with one hand and then stabs you with another hand. By the way, the attacker you are dealing with on the street might be a trained fighter, but he can attack you like crazy. So there is no way you can underestimate the attacker. And he may not follow any familiar combination of attacks that you face in your training.

When you follow your well-known combination of punches and kicks to attack, the attacker might not be there or he is in a different position or he will use his weapon. As a result, it might not work. It is very important to pay close attention to what the attacker is doing, where he places his hands, and whether he has any weapon or not.

You can set your strategy to defend yourself based on the situation. At the same time, you have to be flexible to change and adapt. You are fighting and you see there are multiple attackers, now you might focus on finding a way to get out of there soon instead of being there to keep fighting.
