# The Splintergains report - changing strategies - Splinter Stats Season 58 Report Card

@riandeuk

Seems like doing the report just before the end of season instead of just after is becoming the standard. Will try to change it but is kinda hard when doing it just after season end doesn't make sense when I just wrote one :-P
Regardless, keeping track is important with anything substantial you want to do, so here we are. Let's look at some stats but first some musings on what happened in the Splinterlands and with my tweaked strategy going forward.

If you think things were going nuts before, it got even crazier over the last few weeks. SPS and dec both shot up in anticipation of the chaos legion presale. Where most thought dec closing in on 1 cent a piece was crazy considering it should be roughly pegged to 0.1 cent it's now gone up to as much as 1.65 cent.. SPS also got pretty crazy and I think it briefly touched the 1 dollar mark. Long term I do think that one has the most potential, although I have no idea (and nobody really does probably) at what price point it will settle. What I do know is that the team is gonna add a lot of value in any way they reasonably can to provide value for staked SPS, so yeah I think it has a bright future.

Guildie in need

One of our guild members had some unfortunate events happen to him where he lost his house and is now living with his family in their store as an alternative .

It was great to see how the guild and community in the discord server reacted, there was a fundraiser raffle that I think helped him out greatly (full story here: https://peakd.com/splinterstats/@riandeuk/fundraiser-raffle-helping-a-guildie-out) will write about the results in a separate post later on.

revamped strategy

Before the current rental system, there was rental v1.0 which was a bit trickier to use and I fortunately discovered pretty soon after I started playing. The only way to make use of this was through peakmonsters.com and you had to deposit Hive to make use of the system. It was a much less used function and therefor a bit of a hidden gem, I had rentals setup for 180 days and hardly ever lost the ability to play those cards as there were some accounts with good rental terms that hardly ever cancelled the running contracts. This was before the super influx of players and the changes to season end rewards though. I do think the new system is better for everyone as it's much more accessible and doesn't involve any swapping of currencies so it's way more convenient. I still use peakmonsters.com as it has a lot of great functionalities not found inside the game. Bulk buying, sorting cards in many different ways, bid function you name it.. I think there's even more rental functions in the works and I'm excited to see them come out. So big thanks for all the work the developers @peakmonsters put in, it's appreciated!

Since there's a lot of demand right now I actually already stopped renting a lot of cards last season, the rewards I got did not cover my rentals anymore. So either I was unlucky or didn't rent the most efficient deck, but I think it has more to do with said demand. Prices are just too high right now, all I rented was a few summoners as they're the big bottle neck and very expensive to get.

So what do you do? I actually started renting out, I was holding quite some dec, most of which I had put in liquidity pools. This was mostly for the SPS airdrop, but doing a quick calculation on how much vouchers for the presale I would get made me decide to not maximize the airdrop for now and rather focus on progressing in the game. There's still many months ahead to receive airdrop over all assets, might as well progress and increase the combined total of all assets for now. It might be a bit of a gamble and I'll have less chance to dip into the presale, but I wasn't gonna have a lot of benefit there anyway.

So what I did is withdraw most dec from the on chain LP's and started buying some useful cards to play or ones in high demand on the rental market (and which I would later want anyway to combine for higher leagues). This way I'm building my power level to advance in leagues eventually and have some extra passive income or better cards to put in for the matches. Although I admit, it hurt my airdrop pretty bad.. Will have to evaluate later on if it was worth it! Now let's look at the numbers from past season:

Rating1564 - Silver III
Rating High1602
Ratio (Win/Loss)0.90 (87/97)
Longest Streak4

Didn't play a lot last season. Without all the rentals I felt stuck and had less fun playing after experiencing all the new skills and card combo's in gold and diamond. But now that I'm scooping up specific cards and trying out new things I found new, lower lvl combo's that are actually fun to play and do well against the meta in these leagues. I also FINALLY started paying attention to the recent line ups of my opponent. Took me some time to not be lazy and spend a few secs quickly scanning the obvious ones: mylor? forget about going all melee with malric (unless earth is exempt of course) but go magic/ranged and no attack tank instead. Many magic teams? Bring in the void and magic reflect mob. It really does make all the difference and is worth the few seconds.

So hopefully I will start to get above a 1.0 ratio again soon!

Even though I still have some quest potions and always do those every day (no days off!) the rewards where terrible. Bad luck maybe, but it comes with being in a lower league again. Did manage to get 2 legendaries and they're great to play with and also do well on the rental market. but 4k dec total value isn't very good. Although the legendary cards are worth a lot more I must say so kinda skewed by that. I'm most suprirsed by dec from chests, it's particularly low compared to before.

Collection progress since last season

Let's also look at the complete picture and season on season growth here. Considering I started buying cards of the market quite aggressively it makes sense if this went up quite some. And it sure did, close to 13k extra collection power and a whopping 1700 dollar value in total which is more than double the value since the last report. More like 2.5X that, which is in part appreciation and part buying new cards. Would never have thought I'd be able to get there so quick. Just 5k more to reach silver 2 without renting, hope I can get that within a few weeks.

As you can see, some cancellations and way less rented overall. Still need the summoners to get any play done but also managed to earn some from rentals. This figure will likely increase but it's nice to so a positive NET amount. Onwards and upwards!

SPS Report

TypeAmount Claimed
Airdrop150.082
Staking Rewards17.211
NET167.293

167 extra SPS, this is another part of my current startegy. Like I said, progressing in the game has priority now. So while I do still stake some I convert a lot of SPS to dec and either hold some or invest in new cards to get ahead. Who knows I might start staking more or holding more dec at some point but for now building my card collection and getting to high silver and eventually into gold league is a priority.

This number will therefor likely drop some in the next report.

There you have it, some big changes but a lot of good progress and I really enjoy buying cards and figuring out how to play and rent them out effectively. Just holding a currency can be done with any crypto, the fun here is the game and extra options Splinterlands offers. So all in all I feel this was the right decision. Definitely gonna evaluate this later on.
