Bricklane Cafe

My wife and I have been on the hunt for some new restaurants around Dhaka and Khulna for about a year now, and so far we've tried out most of the restaurants we have on our list. But the list is never-ending though, the restaurant business is a booming sector in our country. Even if a restaurant has average food, a combo of good services, marketing, and a good looking restaurant itself will help them stay in business.

So, every now and then a big list of new restaurants pop up around the city and country, and even if these restaurants don't come to my attention, my wife will surely find out about most of them. She's a true foodie, I just like to eat and take pictures, but she has every quality that makes a true foodie.

Last time I was in Khulna she mentioned this new restaurant/café, she mentioned that she had been here before with her friends to try some coffee, but didn't get to try the other items.

So she "requested" me to take her there when I set foot in Khulna again, meaning she just wanted to put the damage on my wallet and pockets haha. But I was up for it, I'm always ready to try some good food.

On top of that, restaurants in Khulna don't charge a lot for their food, it's all quite affordable here. Compared to Dhaka, you can get the same quality and amount of food for 50% less in Khulna, which is a win win situation I'd say.

We started off with their best selling chicken sub sandwich, and it's just like any other sub sandwich I've tried, but at a much cheaper price. Usually these cost a lot more in Dhaka, and that makes sense, because every ingredient costs more and there's also the higher rent for restaurant spaces in the capital.

The wings were a saucy disaster, that is why I avoid ordering wings, especially when at a restaurant. Even though the taste was alright, it surely wasn't worth the mess haha. But my wife loves these things, whether it's made at home, made saucy, crispy, whatever, she loves chicken wings. Whereas I prefer a breast piece or the usual drumsticks, there's way more meat to chow down on. But the wings were nice, nothing too spicy, good taste too, just a bit too much sauce for my taste.

I really wanted to try their waffles, I had checked the menu before arriving, and it looked good over there. So we ordered one for both us, and it was quite alright, not my best pick for dessert, but good enough. Chocolate chips and coconut flakes on top were a good combo, I never thought they'd work well together, because I never liked the coconut flavored chocolate bar, Bounty.

We had to end things off with the dumplings, because it was the last item that was served, it took over 20 minutes to reach our table. I don't know if it usually takes that much time or not, but at least the dumplings were good. With both the dips they taste even better. This is another favorite for my wife, nowadays she actually orders it regularly haha. Whenever she doesn't feel like cooking, she'll just open up the Foodpanda app and order some dumplings from Bricklane.

All in all, the food was good and the restaurant is quite nice too, and this little buffet of ours didn't even put a dent on my wallet lol.

And that's why I love Khulna, things are quite affordable, the streets aren't packed, and there's a fair bit of nature all around too. I wouldn't mind leaving the capital and heading towards Khulna, not at all. It surely is my kind of a place, after quite a few visits in the past few years, it feels like I'm a part of this city too.
