Composure

Attaining balance in life will be one of your toughest bargains; yet, maintaining it will be tougher.

To maintain balance, one has to hover somewhere around the middle of holding on, and sometimes letting go.

It's the same thing for stress, most of the times at least. You'll never be fully "stress-free", because we're sometimes too arrogant, and would rather hold on than let go. Also, just when you get rid of one stress causing mess, there'll always be a new quest waiting for you, just around the corner.

The good thing is, we are in control of our responses to these tasks and quests.

If you choose to stress about the past, which is something you can't change, then you're just wasting your energy and your very limited time. Instead, take a deep breath, analyze, and let yourself know that the past is now something which is totally out of your control.

So, it's now better to try and focus on your present and future.

Yes, non of it will get rid of the problem then and there, things won't be as jolly and amusing instantly, but you'll be one step closer to being "stress-free".

At the end of the day, life is all about a few good habits and restraint.

The problem with this "modern world" is that we now have way too many options, which to me seems like the leading cause of unnecessary stress.

"I need to get that new furniture"
"I need that new iPhone"
"I need go on another shopping spree"
"I need a bigger house"

Do you? Do you really "NEED" all of this?

It's a good to aim high, you should aim high, but you should also hold the ability to differentiate between your needs and your "wants". All these wants and a huge bucket list of unnecessary things only add to your stress levels. The urge to have it all, here and now, is what's playing with your mind, poking you repeatedly.

Where does it end? This big list of wants and the lack of patience.

We lack gratitude, that's what I've noticed. To get rid of that extra bit of stress, to maintain and advance towards a life of balance, you must take a step towards gratitude first.

We now heavily promote the idea of "excess"; simplicity and temperance is now a thing of the past. Which is why nowadays, most us fail when we're out there in search of "happiness" and "balance".

"Every situation in life is temporary. So, when life is good, make sure you enjoy and receive it fully. And when life is not good, remember that it will not last forever, and better days are on the way" - Bruce Lee

About 4 to 5 years ago I saw this quote on some social media platform, and it hit me.

I still have it my gallery and on my Instagram.

Now, it wasn't anything life changing, but it was another addition to my cause. To be positive, to be grateful, always being realistic.

Because at that time, I truly was lucky to be alive. Throughout the period of 2015 - 2016 I was very close to the door to the after-life. As I was diagnosed in a critical condition with a life threatening disease, which had struck fear into the hearts of my loved ones, soon enough, even my extra optimistic side started to believe that I was as good as gone, but I survived.

And here I am, or maybe it's a clone?

After I was done with all my treatments and meds in April of 2016, I then embarked on a journey of self-improvement.

Being grateful for my life, for the ones around me and for everything I have. When I started to look around and pay attention, I realized that I had everything hat money can't buy. Trustworthy friends, a supportive family, also the knowledge, confidence and foundation to take myself and the ones around me to greater heights.

At this point in life, all the stress that is present in my mind is my own doing. You really can't get rid of it all, but balance is achievable, and just remember, whatever the circumstances maybe, this too shall pass...

Hey there! Yes, I was a bit distracted and only just got to reading this. I wrote something similar about holding on and letting go, too.
Yes, indeed! It's good to have gratitude and remember that this too shall pass, my mum always said.
Thanks for sharing this with us:)

Hey, Milly, how've you been?

I was a bit distracted and only just got to reading this. I wrote something similar about holding on and letting go, too.

I still couldn't carry on with my daily Hive/PeakD browsing, I'm replying now after 6 hour long power outage. It's crazy over here, we're already facing an average of 4 to 5 hours of random power outages daily, but today it's just extreme. A whole 6 hours without any electricity. Just now the electricity supply is back again.

Yes, indeed! It's good to have gratitude and remember that this too shall pass, my mum always said.

Yup, it's like my own scenario right now. Sure, we didn't have 6 hours of electricity, but if I just look around a bit, then I'll find areas which are going through much worse.

Gratitude indeed. From all the news and notices, it seems like we'll have to live with these power outages for at least a month. Yikes!

Let's see how long it takes, before I go all bat-shit crazy. 🙏

Those power outages are horrible for such extended periods. I experienced that in the Philippines. In Jamaica, they have sporadic power cuts that are very short, but it's best to always be prepared. Don't wait last minute to iron your clothes for a special function... and for the ladies, don't wait to go to the hairdresser for that transformation to make a grand entry because chances are that you'll be sitting in a salon with curlers and wet hair 😂
The real downside is that with the humidity and heat, food goes off quickly when the fridge or freezer is out.
I hope you'll find a way to cope 🙏

The heat is unbearable; there's no rain, no winds, it's so dry and sticky. People can't even operate properly because of these high temps, and then there's these outages, which disrupts our work flow and makes it even worse. Pathetic!

Pathetic is the word, indeed!
Do you have running water at these times? In the Philippines, no light meant no water. So on days when I knew the power would be out for 10 - 12 hours 7 AM to 5/7 PM... I had all devices and power banks fully charged. I had all my emergency water for washing up and all my drinking water. In the morning, I was like a whirlwind completing ALL my morning tasks and brewing a coffee eating, washing up and showering before the lights went out... I felt accomplished 😅... when everyone was just waking up with no water to shower, or a coffee 😂... Then I'd pack my trike with camera gear and ride for miles and stop and have picnics:)

Fortunately, water supply is just fine, but some of our neighbors are suffering from water shortage for some reason.

I had all devices and power banks fully charged. I had all my emergency water for washing up and all my drinking water.

I'm charging everything up right now. Who knows what'll happen in the next few hours. 😂 I think we have enough bottles filled up with drinking water too.

The only problem we're facing is with our digital tasks and "digital lifestyle". Last time we faced anything like this was about 15 years ago. Who knew, that one day, again, we would have to rely on our old flawed structure of living our daily lives.

Then I'd pack my trike with camera gear and ride for miles and stop and have picnics

I'd love to get out during my free time, even for a short walk, but the people here are seriously falling sick because of this heat wave and high temps. If the temps cool down, then even the power outages won't be as harsh and we'd figure something out.

Gosh! I feel your pain as I'm imagining the extreme heat now.🤗

Today it's totally out of control, and it's all deteriorating with every single day that passes by. Here I am now after another 1 hour long outage, meaning we didn't have any electricity for over 8 hours out of our 24 hours.

I just hope things get better ASAP. This unbearable heat combined with load-shedding is now starting to feel like a curse.

I got a whole lot from this. And if I start highlighting all the parts that got to me, I'll probably be writing a post right here in the comments, lol.
But you're right. About pretty much everything. No, we don't need the things we claim we do. And yes, we need to show more gratitude for the blessings we have in our lives.
It takes being at death's door to have such in-depth knowledge on things like this but I'm glad you're here now and could share this with us. I hope you're alright @riz611.🌺

Those are the best type of comments, they usually lead to one hell of a chat-versation haha. 😂

we need to show more gratitude for the blessings we have in our lives.

Yes we do, if not for the practice of gratitude then our thirst for material becomes unhinged and we end up losing control. Soon after we find ourselves circling in a loop that just leads us to our downfall.

I'm glad you're here now and could share this with us. I hope you're alright

I'm doing fine now, at least not at my worst. How've you been? Hopefully life is being kind to you. ✨

It's been 7 years since that traumatizing experience, where I somehow escaped from the touch of death. Now, hopefully I'll live until I end up making a difference in this world, that's all I want.

I've never heard anyone put it that way before. What an interesting man!😂

Hopefully life is being kind to you. ✨

Well life is rarely kind but it's about finding happiness in the little things right? Seeking for things to be glad about.

Now, hopefully I'll live until I end up making a difference in this world, that's all I want.

Trust me when I say that you're well on your way to doing that. Heck, I only read your writing and it spoke so much to me. That's making a difference as far as I know.🌺

What an interesting man!

I'd like to believe that I'm an interesting man, that's what they tell me at least. 🤔

Seeking for things to be glad about.

It's the little things for me, the details we usually disregard, the very brief joyous moments. ☮️

Trust me when I say that you're well on your way to doing that. Heck, I only read your writing and it spoke so much to me. That's making a difference as far as I know.

You are just too kind. I thank you for taking the time to drop by to share your thoughts, it really means a lot. Much love. 🖤

Cheers 🥃

it was so nice sharing these experiences.

Such conversations are always nice, they're best type of conversations; unplanned, unbounded, natural and true. ✨

Have a really wonderful day @riz611. It's nice meeting you.🤗

The feeling is mutual then, mutual indeed.

Do take good care of yourself. ☮️
