Hey guys, how's it going?! I hope you're off to a great start to the week. I'm stopping by today to share a new recipe for a homemade dip—perfect for those "I want a snack" afternoons or to share at a family gathering.
It’s a sardine and vegetable dip that’s ready in no time and is perfect for enjoying with tostadas, crackers, cassava chips, and even cold pasta.

The idea for this dip came from my daughter Miranda, who told me a few afternoons ago, "I want to eat something delicious," but she didn't want anything sweet. So I had to think of what I could make, and I came across two cans of sardines that seemed perfect for eating with some crackers.
I’ll tell you that at home we usually eat sardines in hot dishes—as a pasta topping or as a filling for arepas—and we even make some delicious croquettes, but this time I wanted to prepare them as a cold dip with crunchy vegetables to give them a totally different twist, and also because it was the easiest way to make them 🤣
This dip isn’t just great for a snack at home—it’s the perfect go-to dish when unexpected guests show up or when we want to watch a movie on the weekend while enjoying something tasty without having to cook, so join me to see how easy it is to make this dip!

Ingredientes / Ingredients *
2 latas de sardina / 2 Cans of sardines 1/2 pimentón cortado en cubos pequeños / Half a bell pepper, finely diced 1/2 cebolla cortada en cubos pequeños / Half an onion, finely diced
2 cucharadas de mayonesa / 2 Tablespoons of mayonnaise
2 cucharadas de salsa de tomate/ 2 Tablespoons of tomato sauce (ketchup) 1 cucharada de salsa de soya / 1 Tablespoon of soy sauce
1/4 de cucharada de salsa Jonkanoo/ Quarter tablespoon of Jonkanoo sauce
Procedimiento / Procedure
To start preparing our sardine and vegetable dip, the first thing we’ll do is open the cans and drain off some of the excess liquid or oil. Place the sardines in a bowl and, using a fork, flake them thoroughly.
I like to break them up completely so the dip has a fairly smooth texture and is much easier to spread on crackers or bread, but that’s up to you.

Once the sardines are ready, we’ll move on to the vegetables. Take the half onion and the half bell pepper and dice them into small cubes. The idea behind chopping them finely is so they’re evenly distributed throughout the sauce and add that wonderful crunchy texture to every bite, without any pieces being too big or getting in the way.
When they’re ready, add them to the bowl along with the sardines and mix everything together.

And at this point, it’s time to add that creamy touch and boost the flavor with our sauce combination, so we add the two tablespoons of mayonnaise, the two tablespoons of tomato sauce, and the tablespoon of soy sauce. Using a spoon or spatula, we mix everything together with folding motions until all the ingredients are completely incorporated into a silky cream.
In my case, I decided to divide this mixture into two portions and add my Jamaican hot sauce to one of them—and that’s it! Two dips in just a few minutes.

The result? A spread that’s super easy to make, super delicious, and has the perfect balance of salty, sweet, and spicy flavors—plus a crunchy texture thanks to the raw vegetables. It’s also a fantastic, filling, and super affordable option for sharing with the family, satisfying a quick afternoon craving, or serving at an event or gathering.
Amiga wow con unas arepitas...
