Hagamos una base decorativa para macetas/Let's make a decorative base for plant pots 💗😍

Hello gente crativa de Hive! Hoy les quiero compartir un proyecto súper lindo que realicé también para la habitación de Miranda, y se trata de una base para macetas elaborada esta vez con cemento blanco, ya que no solo necesitaba un poco más de firmeza, sino que también fuese más resistente, sobre todo al agua, ya que es para colocar un pequeño cactus y de esta forma evitamos posibles goteos o tierra sobre la superficie blanca de la mesa de noche.

Tengo que confesarles que este proyecto surgió en realidad porque quedé súper picada con esas bandejas preciosas que veo por pinterest con un acabado rústico y mate superlindo, pero que para realizarlas necesitan moldes de silicona, así que como no tengo molde de silicona, por supuesto que tenía que buscar una alternativa y después de poner patas arriba toda la casa, me he encontrado unos moldes que ya en una oportunidad, mi esposo utilizó para hacerme unas macetas.

Hello, creative folks at Hive! Today I want to share a really lovely project I made for Miranda’s bedroom too, and it’s a plant pot stand made this time from white cement, as I needed it to be not only a bit sturdier but also more durable, especially against water, since it’s for a small cactus and this way we avoid any potential drips or soil on the white surface of the bedside table.

I have to confess that this project actually came about because I was absolutely smitten with those gorgeous trays I see on Pinterest with a super-cute rustic, matt finish, but to make them you need silicone moulds, so as I don’t have a silicone mould, I obviously had to find an alternative, and after turning the whole house upside down, I found some moulds that my husband had once used to make me some plant pots.

Se trata de unos moldes para servir postres individuales que tienen una especie de hendiduras por los lados que a mí particularmente me gustan mucho, así que decidí que estos serían los adecuados para intentar este proyecto y el resultado fue realmente lindo.

Como saben estas bandejitas tienen muchísimos usos, no solo decorativos, sino que colocados en la mesita de noche o en el tocador, pueden servir para dejar tus prendas, para colocar macetas, velas, perfumes, en fin, una gran variedad de usos y lo que me encantó de este molde en particular es que en el fondo tiene un círculo con algo de profundidad, lo que al momento de desmoldar me iba a dar una superficie, digamos de 2 niveles; el borde con hendiduras y en el centro una superficie lisa y más profunda que el borde, lo que la hace perfecta para colocar macetas y accesorios, ya que no se irán hacia los lados. Y como ya hablamos mucho, mejor vamos con el proyecto.

These are moulds for serving individual desserts that have little indentations down the sides, which I particularly like, so I decided they’d be just the thing for this project, and the result was really lovely.

As you know, these little trays have loads of uses—not just decorative ones. Placed on your bedside table or dressing table, they can be used to hold your clothes, plant pots, candles, perfumes… in short, a wide variety of uses. What I loved about this mould in particular is that the base has a slightly deeper circular section, which, when unmoulded, would give me a surface with, let’s say, two levels: the rim with indentations and, in the centre, a smooth surface that’s deeper than the rim. This makes it perfect for holding plant pots and accessories, as they won’t slide off to the sides. And as we’ve chatted enough, let’s get on with the project.

4 cucharadas de cemento blanco
Agua (cantidad necesaria)
Aditivo impermeabilizante acrílico o cola blanca

4 tablespoons of white cement
Water (as required)
Acrylic waterproofing additive or white glue

Paso a paso/ Step by step

Para iniciar con este proyecto lo primero que haremos será preparar el molde y para ello vamos a colocar un poquito de aceite (puede ser de cocina) en el fondo y con la ayuda del pincel lo vamos a distribuir por todo el fondo y por los lados del envase, a una profundidad de aproximadamente 2 centímetros ya que cómo se trata de una bandeja no vamos a llenar todo el envase.

Una vez tenemos listo el molde, vamos a trabajar con nuestra mezcla, para esto vamos a colocar el cemento blanco en un envase, seguidamente agregamos 2 cucharadas del aditivo acrílico o pega blanca, incorporamos y seguidamente agregamos el agua en pequeñas cantidades mientras mezclamos. Lo que estamos buscando es una textura líquida pero con consistencia.

To get started on this project, the first thing we’ll do is prepare the mould. To do this, we’ll pour a little oil (cooking oil will do) into the bottom and, using a brush, spread it evenly across the bottom and sides of the container, to a depth of about 2 centimetres, as this is a tray and we won’t be filling the whole container.

Once the mould is ready, we’ll work on our mixture. To do this, we’ll place the white cement in a container, then add 2 tablespoons of acrylic additive or white glue, mix it in, and then add the water in small amounts whilst stirring. We’re aiming for a liquid texture but with some body.

El siguiente paso es agregar el color y para esto tienen diferentes alternativas, ya que pueden utilizar anilinas (pigmento en polvo) pintura acrílica, o como en mi caso colorante vegetal en gel que tenía en casa.

Con respecto a la cantidad fui agregando hasta que consideré que el cemento había tomado algo de color, incorporé muy bien y corregí la consistencia con un poquito más de cemento.

The next step is to add colour, and there are various options available for this: you can use aniline dyes (powdered pigment), acrylic paint, or, as in my case, a vegetable-based gel dye that I had at home.

As for the amount, I kept adding it until I felt the cement had taken on some colour; I mixed it in thoroughly and adjusted the consistency with a little more cement.

Una vez tenemos lista la mezcla, el siguiente paso es agregarla en el molde, y la cantidad que usemos va a depender de lo gruesa que deseen la bandeja. Damos unos golpecitos sobre la superficie y nos olvidamos de ella por unos 3 días aproximadamente 🤣

Once the mixture is ready, the next step is to pour it into the tin; the amount you use will depend on how thick you want the tray to be. Give the surface a few taps and leave it to set for about 3 days 🤣

Para el secado, deben saber que este tipo de mezclas aunque es poca cantidad toma bastante tiempo para secarse así que lo mas importante en esta etapa del proyecto es tener paciencia y seguir estas recomendaciones que les dejé cuando hice el proyecto anterior en yeso, pero se las vuelvo a compartir:

• Deja secar en una habitación a temperatura ambiente
• Evita habitaciones con aire acondicionado
• Evita la exposición directa a fuentes de calor
• No toques hasta que hayan transcurrido 24 horas como mínimo
• Para saber si tu pieza está completamente seca debes tocarla, y si se siente a temperatura ambiente está lista, sin por el contrario la sientes fría, aún le falta tiempo de secado.

When it comes to drying, you should be aware that although this type of mixture is used in small quantities, it takes quite a long time to dry. So the most important thing at this stage of the project is to be patient and follow the recommendations I gave you when I did the previous plaster project, but I’ll share them with you again:

• Leave to dry in a room at room temperature
• Avoid rooms with air conditioning
• Avoid direct exposure to heat sources
• Do not touch until at least 24 hours have passed
• To check if your piece is completely dry, touch it; if it feels at room temperature, it is ready. If, on the other hand, it feels cold, it still needs more time to dry.

En mi caso después de cuatro días, aunque se sentía un poquito fría me pareció que había sido suficiente tiempo de secado, así que desmoldé, cosa que fue súper sencilla, solo dí vuelta al molde y listo, la pieza salió con mucha facilidad y se veía súper linda.

En este punto solo tenía que corregir algunos detallitos, como por ejemplo el centro que debía nivelarlo, ya que el peso de la mezcla hizo que el plástico hiciera una especie de curva, así que con una lija y mucho cuidado dejé plano todo el centro y corregí algunos detallitos que quedaron debido al envase, pero como el aspecto rústico que tiene es lo que estaba buscando, no le hice gran cosa, de hecho, no le voy a aplicar brillo porque la verdad quedé encantada con el proyecto, tanto así que voy a hacer una para mi mesita de noche pero sin agregar color.

In my case, after four days, although it felt a bit cold to the touch, I thought it had dried enough, so I took it out of the mould – which was really easy; I just turned the mould upside down and that was it – the piece came out very easily and looked absolutely lovely.

At this point, I just had to fix a few minor details, such as levelling the centre, as the weight of the mixture had caused the plastic to curve slightly. So, using sandpaper and taking great care, I smoothed out the centre and corrected a few small imperfections left by the mould, but as the rustic look is exactly what I was after, I didn’t do much to it; in fact, I’m not going to apply any varnish because, to be honest, I was absolutely delighted with the project – so much so that I’m going to make one for my bedside table, but without adding any colour.

Como pueden ver es otro proyecto bastante sencillo y con un acabado bastante profesional, y miren lo linda que se ve con la macetita.

As you can see, it’s another fairly simple project with a very professional finish, and just look how lovely it looks with the little pot.
