Un paseo por la "Plaza Bolívar": el corazón de Porlamar/ A stroll through Plaza Bolívar: the heart of Porlamar ⛪️🚶‍♀️

Hello gente de Hive Margarita! Hace rato que no me pasaba por la comunidad, pero después de visitar hace poco el centro de Porlamar quería compartir con ustedes un poco sobre mi visita a la plaza Bolívar, un rincón de nuestra isla que como muchos, está lleno de historia, árboles frondosos y una vibra local increíble, y por supuesto aprovecho de dejarle algunas fotitos del recorrido, para que tú que me lees y no eres de la isla, puedas ver un poco de lo que es Margarita, más allá de sus hermosas playas.

Esta plaza se encuentra ubicada en el centro de Porlamar, la capital comercial de nuestra isla y nada más llegar a ella tus ojos se van directo a una hermosa fuente que tiene por nombre la La Ronda, conocida popularmente como Las muñecas, obra del escultor margariteño Francisco Narváez, y que se encuentra integrada a la Plaza Bolívar, y es punto de referencia para locales y turistas.

A pocos pasos de ella se encuentra la iglesia San Nicolás de Bari, una hermosa construcción de inspiración neogótica que se levanta imponente frente a la estatua de nuestro libertador Simón Bolívar. Esta iglesia tiene 173 años y a través del tiempo ha sufrido algunos cambios, siendo el último de ellos en el año 1953 en el que se finalizó su característica cúpula.

Esta plaza no es solo un sitio para turistas, es el corazón mismo de Porlamar donde los margariteños van de un lado a otro por sus pasillos, o se sientan en sus bancos a conversar bajo la sombra de los enormes árboles, y si te detienes a descansar un rato o simplemente a disfrutar del lugar, podrás ver miles de historias caminando frente a ti o sentados a tu alrededor.

Es un espacio lleno de vida, con muchísimo movimiento gracias a las diferentes tiendas que la rodean, por lo que visitar este espacio es conectar con la esencia de la isla, y es que como siempre les digo, Margarita es mucho más que playas, sol y arena, así que si vienes de visita a la perla del caribe, esta debe ser una para obligada.

It’s been a while since I last popped into the community, but after visiting the centre of Porlamar recently, I wanted to share a bit with you about my visit to Plaza Bolívar – a corner of our island which, like so many others, is steeped in history, with leafy trees and an incredible local vibe, and of course I’ll take this opportunity to share a few photos from my walk, so that those of you reading this who aren’t from the island can get a glimpse of what Margarita is all about, beyond its beautiful beaches.

This square is situated in the centre of Porlamar, the commercial capital of our island, and as soon as you arrive, your eyes are drawn straight to a beautiful fountain called La Ronda, popularly known as Las muñecas, the work of the Margarita-born sculptor Francisco Narváez, which forms part of Plaza Bolívar, and serves as a landmark for locals and tourists alike.

Just a few steps away stands the Church of San Nicolás de Bari, a beautiful neo-Gothic-inspired building that stands imposingly opposite the statue of our liberator, Simón Bolívar. This church is 173 years old and has undergone several changes over time, the most recent of which took place in 1953 when its distinctive dome was completed.

This square isn’t just a place for tourists; it’s the very heart of Porlamar, where the locals wander up and down its paths or sit on its benches chatting in the shade of the huge trees. And if you stop to rest for a while or simply enjoy the place, you’ll see thousands of stories unfolding right before your eyes or sitting all around you.

It’s a space brimming with life, bustling with activity thanks to the various shops that surround it. Visiting this square means connecting with the very essence of the island; as I always say, Margarita is so much more than just beaches, sun and sand, so if you’re visiting the Pearl of the Caribbean, this is an absolute must-see.
