Hello, I hope you are all well. My husband and I returned from Colombia 14 days ago. We went there for medical reasons and stayed for five months while my husband underwent several surgeries. The last one was a pacemaker implant to help his heart function properly.

We arrived here in Venezuela, and can you believe it? We don't have electricity anymore. Sometimes they turn it on, we have power for 10 hours, then they cut it off, and we're without it for 6 or 8 hours. And that's every single day. I sell ice, and now it's almost impossible for it to freeze because just as it starts to harden, BAM! The power goes out again.

When I was in Colombia and I asked about the situation in Venezuela, and my children told me these news stories, I thought they were exaggerating, but now I see that's not the case.

I've been so angry about this situation. It's not that the power didn't go out before, but this is just too much. How is it possible that we're going through this, in a country like Venezuela, so rich in oil and natural resources? I don't know much about history and geography, but I've lived in my country for many years, and I've never experienced anything like this before.

My son told me he's going to buy me an electric fan this weekend to help alleviate this situation because the heat is often unbearable, and the mosquitoes are rampant. I've had to change my daily routine because of the constant power outages, and my ice business is suffering because I'm already losing customers.

My freezer is practically just for decoration and serves as a bed for my cat because there's no time for anything to freeze in there anymore. It's very sad and makes me so angry. Doing laundry and using social media has become incredibly difficult because of this awful situation.

I don't even know what to think or do anymore, just lie in my hammock and be patient. I spend time talking to my children, walking the cat or the dog I adopted named Firulai. Sometimes that helps me calm my anger, and I patiently wait out the 6 or 8 hours of power rationing.

Mi hijo, me dijo que este fin de semana me comprará un ventilador electrico para poder paliar esta situación, porque el calor muchas veces es insoportable y los mosquitos hacen de la suya. He tenido que cambiar mi rutina diaria por los constantes cortes de luz y mi empresa de hielo está sufriendo las consecuencias porque ya estoy perdiendo mis clientes.

El congelador lo tengo prácticamente de adorno y como una cama para mi gato porque ya ni tiempo da de que se congele algo allí. Es muy triste y causa mucho enojo, lavar la ropa, usar la redes sociales se ha vuelto cuesta arriba por esta lamentable situación.

Ya ni sé que pensar o hacer solo acostarme en mi hamaca y tener paciencia. Pasar el rato hablando con mis hijos, paseando al gato o al perro que adopté que se llama Firulai. A veces así se me quita el enojo y espero pacientemente las 6 u 8 horas de racionamiento eléctrico.
