Here is a set of maps showing the French election results on the right, and on the left the French territories owned by Henry II of England and his wife Eleanor of Aquitaine which constituted their Angevin Empire in the year 1154.

868 years have passed but there is still a massive cultural impact from the Angevin Empire - more liberal, more into capitalism, more like the anglosphere that Henry II did so much to shape (Henry II invented English common law, trial by jury, circuit judges and devolving power to judges to use their common sense if there was no appropriate law on the books).
