Kati Pahari: An interesting Place

Karachi is a very big city, in fact, it is the biggest city I have ever seen. Not just because I live in this city, but I have been to different parts of the world and in comparison according to my knowledge, Karachi is one the biggest and busiest city in the world. Therefore, it has many interesting places to witness. Lots of fun places, some historic places, amusement parks, shopping mall, anything you want, you will get it here. One of the rarest and interesting place is Kati Pahari.

Kata Pahari was built in early 2000, and it was a really nice move by then, Mayor of the Karachi, to have a short cut in connecting two towns. I am not sure but due to this place, a person can save a lot of fuel and time if he wants to move from Nazimabad to Orangi town (two different towns). The approach and idea was good however, there are always cons and pros of anything. This Kati Pahari which means Cutted mountain in English, begins a new war between two political parties which represents two different group of people.

I remember that we were asked to not use this route for any purpose, heard a lot of dangerous stories of this place. Too much of violence and fights, innocent people were beaten up by either party. So, the whole good thing just turned into the worst, a place which was meant to be the connecting point was then changed into a cutting point. This continued for few years and then, later with the help of security agencies, the whole area was purified and stamped as a safe place to go. Human nature, still people think of it as a dangerous place and avoid taking this route.

Recently, we were passing this area then my bro asked driver to show us this place if don’t mind. We went there and took some pictures. It looks all normal there but the important thing which I noticed that there is no development or any progress, it is still the same as I saw it last time around 10 years ago. I was thinking of it as a touristic attraction, it is possible but needs a bit of development and spending a bit of government monies on it. I hope in coming years, we would be able to see some progress and can turn such places into touristic spots. Hoping for the best, fingers crossed.
