Harvesting and waiting [Eng/Esp]

Hello, friends of Hive and Hive Garden. I hope you’re all doing well. Today I’d like to share with you that we’re already harvesting peppers from the seedbed I set up a few months ago. In my last update, I showed you the peppers and flowers on the plants, and we’ve already been able to pick some and use them in cooking.

So far we’ve harvested four good-sized peppers; I reckon they’re quite large considering the size of the plants and the fact they’re growing in paint pots. In fact, I’ve bought peppers of that size at the supermarket, so I’m pleased to see that looking after the pepper plants has been worth it.

My wife is the one who’s happiest about being able to cook with things we’ve grown ourselves, and it saves money because peppers are a bit pricey here; the only investment is the time you put in.

Right now there are still a few peppers on the plants and more flowering, and by the way, yesterday my wife noticed that two plants had ants on the roots and were damaging the leaves with some little black creatures on the underside, but I’ve already cleaned them up and put some powder on to get the ants to go away.

The report on the Margariteño tomato plants is also good, but not ideal, because the plants I sowed directly in the ground have barely grown at all and there’s one that’s starting to wither, even though I prepared the soil with compost. It’s just that between the poor soil and the strong sun, they aren’t making much headway. However, the ones in the pots I have in the garden are big and have lots of tomatoes growing, but we haven’t harvested them yet.

Those are growing very quickly; mind you, I pruned them not long ago and look how thick with leaves they are again, and I reckon I’ll prune them again this weekend.

I counted about 13 tomatoes on those plants, both large and small, and I hadn’t told you that a pear-shaped tomato plant grew in the courtyard alongside these; a few days ago I saw that it had produced two tomatoes, so we should soon be harvesting pear-shaped tomatoes as well as the margariteños, and I’ve already got some apple tomato seeds drying.

Right now I need to keep a close eye on the plants and make sure they don’t get any pests, so they’ll keep producing for a long time.

Well, friends, that’s the update on the seedbed. The cassava plants are holding up in the sun; I water them every day and, well, I hope they’ll produce too, but they’re not quite ready to be harvested yet. When I do that, I’ll let you know how it went.

Hola amigos de Hive y de Hive Garden, espero que todos estén muy bien. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes que ya estamos cosechando pimentones del semillero que hice hace unos meses. En la última actualización les enseñé los pimentones y flores de las matas, y ya pudimos recoger algunos y usarlos para cocinar.

Por ahora hemos recogido cuatro pimentones de buen tamaño, a mi me parece que para el tamaño de las matas y para estar en potes de pintura están grandes, es más, yo he comprado en el supermercado de ese tamaño, así que estoy contento de ver que ha valido la pena el cuidado a las matas de pimentón.

Mi esposa es la que está más contenta de poder cocinar con cosas que tenemos nosotros en la casa, y es un ahorro porque los pimentones aquí están un poco caros y la única inversión es el tiempo que se le dedica.

Ahorita todavía hay unos cuantos pimentones en las matas y más floreciendo, y por cierto ayer mi esposa se dio cuenta que dos matas tenían hormigas en la raíz y estaban dañando las hojas con unos animalitos negros por detrás, pero ya las limpié y puse un polvo para que las hormigas se vayan.

El reporte de las matas de tomate margariteño también es bueno, pero no óptimo porque las matas que sembré directo en la tierra casi no han crecido y hay una que se quiere secar, y eso que preparé la tierra con el compost, pero es que entre que la tierra es mala y el sol que está fuerte no echan para adelante, pero las que están en los envases que las tengo en el jardín estan grandes y con muchos tomates creciendo, pero todavía no hemos cosechado.

Esas crecen muy rápido, fíjense que yo las podé hace no hace mucho y vean como están otra vez tupidas de hojas, y ya creo que el fin de semana las voy a podar otra vez.

Yo a esas les conté unos 13 tomates entre grandes y chiquitos, y no les había dicho que en el patio nació junto con estas una mata de tomate perita que hace unos días vi que pegaron dos tomates así que dentro de poco debemos cosechar también tomates perita junto con los margariteños y ya tengo secando unas semillas de tomate manzano.

Ahorita tengo que estar bien pendiente de la hormigas y de que no les caiga ninguna peste para que produzcan por un buen tiempo.

Bueno amigos esa es la actualización del semillero. Las matas de yuca ahí están aguantando sol, yo las riego todos los días y bueno, espero que sí puedan producir también pero a esas les falta aún para sacarlas y cuando haga eso les cuento cómo nos fue.
