Piazzetta San Marco in Venice

Hello everyone!

In Venice, as in other cities, there are several squares where people, especially tourists, gather. One of such squares is Piazzetta San Marco, which is located between the larger Piazza San Marco square and the beginning (on the eastern side of the city) of the main Grand Canal.

Witam wszystkich!

I arrived near the mentioned square by ferry on the Grand Canal. After going ashore, I had a few dozen meters to walk to the square.

There were obviously a lot of people in the square, which made it difficult for me to get the shots I wanted. The photo shows the public library building "Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana" and the 16th-century cathedral tower "Campanile di San Marco".

In the first photo on the left you can see one of the two columns in the square - "Colonna di San Todaro". The remaining photos show the previously mentioned tower, which is located in St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco).

In the photo above, you can see the Gothic Doge's Palace on the right, and St. Peter's Basilica in the background. Mark.

Na powyższym zdjęciu z prawej strony widać gotycki Pałac Dożów, natomiast w tle Bazylikę św. Marka.

The first building was built here in 814. In the following centuries, it was rebuilt after destruction and expanded. Originally built as the residence of the Doges, it is now a museum.

Standing with our backs to the square in front of us, we have a view of the island with the church of San Giorgio Maggiore.

Stojąc plecami do placu przed nami mamy widok na wyspę z kościołem San Giorgio Maggiore.

In the eastern part of the square, behind the Doge's Palace, there is the Ponte della Paglia stone bridge. It was originally built in 1360, while the current one was built in 1847.

After entering the Ponte della Paglia bridge, we have a view of another bridge from the early 17th century. It is the closed and covered Bridge of Sighs (Ponte dei Sospiri), through which prisoners looked at Venice for the last time on their way to their cells.
