Walk to the Arch of Peace (Arco della Pace) in Milan

I invite you to the next part of visiting Milan. This time the target is Porta Sempione and the "Arco della Pace" triumphal arch located there. In general, our entire tour of Milan can be divided into three parts:

• Cathedral Square and attractions around it such as the Cathedral, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the Plaza della Scala and the church of San Bernardino alle Ossa
• Sforzesco Castle
• Porta Sempione

All three of these places are located in a straight line towards the north-west, if we start the tour from the Cathedral Square. The walking distance is approximately 1800 meters. During this walk, together with my friends, before we reached the Sforzesco Castle, we left the main route (Via Dante street) to see the frescoes in the church of San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore.

Zapraszam do kolejnej części zwiedzania Mediolanu. Tym razem celem jest Porta Sempione i znajdujący się tam łuk triumfalny "Arco della Pace". Ogólnie całe nasze zwiedzanie Mediolanu można podzielić na trzy części:

• Plac Katedralny i atrakcje wokół niego jak Katedra, Galeria Wiktora Emanuela II, Plac della Scala czy kościół San Bernardino alle Ossa
• Zamek Sforzów
• Porta Sempione

Wszystkie te trzy miejsca znajdują się w linii prostej w kierunku północno-zachodnim, jeśli zaczynamy zwiedzanie od Placu Katedralnego. Dystans spaceru wynosi około 1800 metrów. Razem z przyjaciółmi podczas tego spaceru zanim doszliśmy do Zamku Sforzów to zeszliśmy z głównej trasy (ulica Via Dante), aby zobaczyć freski w kościele San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore.

This is our next destination - Sempione Square with a triumphal arch in the middle. On the sides there are former toll booths.

A to już nasz kolejny cel zwiedzania - Plac Sempione z łukiem triumfalnym na środku. Po bokach znajdują się dawne punkty poboru opłat.

Between the Sforzesco Castle and this square is Sempione Park. We stayed there for a while, but for us it didn't stand out much from other parks apart from the fact that it is large. We didn't visit the entire park, so maybe we missed something interesting.

Pomiędzy Zamkiem Sforzów a tym placem znajduje się park Sempione. Zatrzymaliśmy się w nim na chwilę, jednak dla nas nie wyróżnił się zbytnio od innych parków poza tym, że jest duży. Nie zwiedziliśmy całego parku, więc może coś ciekawego nam umknęło.

The Arch of Peace ("Arco della Pace") was built in the first half of the 19th century, previously there were Roman walls with the Gate of Jupiter ("Porta Giovia").

Łuk Pokoju ("Arco della Pace") powstał w pierwszej połowie XIX wieku, wcześniej znajdowały się tutaj Rzymskie mury z Bramą Jowisza ("Porta Giovia”).

The height of the arch is 25m and its width is 24m. It is decorated with bas-reliefs and statues depicting the most important events in the history of Italy and Europe. There are also decorations showing motifs from mythology.

Wysokość łuku wynosi 25m, natomiast szerokość 24m. Ozdobiony jest płaskorzeźbami i posągami przedstawiającymi najważniejsze wydarzenia w historii Włoch i Europy. Są również dekoracje przedstawiające motywy z mitologii.

This was actually the end of our tour of Milan and we continued by metro and bus north-west to the Alfa Romeo museum :)

Na tym właściwie skończyliśmy zwiedzanie Mediolanu i ruszyliśmy dalej metrem oraz autobusem w kierunku północno-zachodnim do muzeum Alfa Romeo :)
