The ELVIS act protects artists' voices and likenesses against misuse using artificial intelligence (AI). According to Music Business Worldwide news, the ELVIS Act, which stands for "Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security", was signed into law by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee at a hony-tonk in Nashville on Thursday, March 21. The Elvis act was introduced in January to update Tennessee's Protection of Personal Rights law to include protection for songwriters, performers, and music industry professionals’voices and likenesses from the misuse of AI. The ELVIS Act will officially go into effect on July 1, 2024, and will be the first law of its kind to be introduced in the United States.

According to a report from Music Business Worldwide, Governor Bill Lee's office noted in a press release:

while Tennessee’s existing law protects name, image and likeness, it doesn’t specifically address new, personalized generative AI cloning models and services that enable human impersonation and allow users to make unauthorized fake works in the image and voice of others.
Artists and musicians at all levels are facing exploitation and the theft of their integrity, identity, and humanity. This threatens the future of Tennessee’s creators, the jobs that they support across the state and country, and the bonds between fans and their favorite bands.

I think it is a law that will set an example for all countries and I think all countries should have such laws to protect artists. I liked both the bill and its name very much. It's really great that it was named after ELVIS, one of the most iconic voices in the world. I also support protecting the voices and likenesses of all songwriters, artists, and music industry professionals from irresponsible and unethical AI. Frankly, I am not a lawyer, but I think that especially those who make money from this should be punished, but those who do this for entertainment, in a way that does not harm the artists and their works, can be ignored. But as I said, I am not a lawyer, I just said what was on my mind.
