Walking in the Scorching Heat of the Sun to Look for a Thrift Shop

When I heard that Mama would get a double payment for her monthly pension, I asked her to come with me to Pinamalayan (the municipality of Oriental Mindoro) because I wanted to buy another short in a thrift shop. I really love the shorts that are selling in a thrift shop, aside from the fact that they are cheaper. As long as you are good at spotting, you can get a good quality short using those eye skills of yours, lol.

Mama has that, you see, so I asked her to come with me. Just so you know, I used my own money to buy those, and if Mama has her own money, she can also buy whatever she wants. And she agreed on it. We just plan it for the other day, or more like we just talk casually about it, then we just set a time. Mama said we have to be early, so, okay, be early. On Saturday,at 8 a.m., I heard that Saturday is "Tiangge-an" Day in Pinamalayan.

That is also the reason why we set it on Saturday. So off we go....

IMG20221203082821.jpg

We started on waiting for a car that Travels in Pinamalayan. From Bansud to Pinamalayan using Bahaghari, it will only take 54 minutes to arrive. But it still depends on the speed of the car that you are riding. Ours is kind of slow and it has a lot of stopover because of the other passenger.

IMG20221203092249.jpg

It is actually raining while we are traveling but it just stop. And when we arrive in Pinamalayan, it becomes hotter. I have my Umbrella but we didn't really use it, lol.

Upon arriving to the destination, we just walk a little to reach these little vendors here who's selling different kind of what we called "Ukay-Ukay" or a pre-loved or a secondhand clothes. There's really a lot of them and this is what we love because we can look in different shop here.

And my happy heart can't contain the happiness and it is jumping in joy. And even if it is too hot and already sweating in the underarm, we still look and look and look until we finally spotted a one or two good items that we really like.

IMG20221203092539.jpg

My first buy is a 6 pocket short that cost 120php or $2.15, but we were able to get it for 100php or $1.79 only because of Mama's power in bargaining, lol. Then two more short which cost me $4.13, the other one is also a 6 pocket short. Not bad, if I will buy a brand new one it will cost me more than that price.

IMG20221203092814.jpg

Mama bought a short too, so while waiting for her, I saw this shop that sells different items including those handmade baskets, bilao and more. I hope they also got a good sale today for that beauties.

IMG20221203100629.jpg

And after Mother got the items she wants, we decided to go in the market because I want to buy some "Kakanin." I am craving for "Puto" or Filipino Rice Steamed Cake that is why. While walking to get in there, I saw the busy Market. There's a lot of fish and seafoods here.

IMG20221203101042.jpg

And this is the kakanin that I am saying. They all look yummy that I am so tempted to buy all of these. But then, I have to stop myself because I can't eat them all, lol. Even if my Mommies help me, we can't eat it all.

IMG20221203100659.jpg

In the end, I only buy 4 different type of kakanin. It is sad because I failed to take a photo of it at home. Or more like, i forgot, lol. And these different kakanin are Puto, Ube Puto, Sapin-Sapin and Suman. The taste is good, but we didn't eat it all because it is too much for us. I just put it in the refrigerator.

IMG20221203102433.jpg

And us we walk further, we saw this little market here with a lot of vendors selling different kind of goods, from fruits to veggies and dried fish. There are some too who sells different kind of plants.

IMG20221203102407.jpg

Look at these Sweet Potato and Squash. There's a lot of them. But Mama didn't buy. I am thinking of buying because I want to cook sweet potato fries, but it will weight too much so I just set aside the thought.

IMG20221203102813.jpg

After walking around in that area, I drag my Mama to a Cafeteria just beside this market. I am already hungry that is why.

IMG20221203103429.jpg

We just order 2 order of rice and 2 order of Ground Beef with lot's of veggies. I also ordered 3 pieces of Lumpiang Shanghai. After having our lunch, we just go back in looking for another Thrift Shop because I feel like buying more short, lol.

IMG20221203105051.jpg

Lucky me because I found this big Thrift Shop where they sell a lot of different items and in a much cheaper price. This is where I bought these shorts which cost me 100 php on or $1.79 for 3 pieces of short.

I inly have two because I soaked the other one in a detergent because it is color white and I want it to look more whiter. Imagine for only $1.79, OMG! I love them seriously.

IMG20221203112745.jpg

And if only it is not that too hot that day, we will continue to look more for a Thrift Shop. But because our legs is already tired even our body, we decided to stop and just do other things like buying our needs in Cathymart which we successfully do.

IMG20221203130656.jpg

And then we go home.

I also love buying in thrift shops but the problem is I don't have skilled eyes. Plus I easily lost my patience scanning and looking for something I would like 😂

Looks like you have a good mode of transportation there. Was that a bus you were riding?

I’m not very good at thrifting cos I get too impatient and things don’t always fit me cos of my petite size hahah but they’re always good for pambahay clothes :D You got some nice purchases in there :D

It's okay naman, it is like a mini Bus yes. It it air-conditioned too.

Same with me, I always rely to my Mama on finding one. I can't understand why she can spot them easily while I can't 🥲. Yes it is, and if for pambahay, and it is much cheaper toom

You did great! Those shorts look awesome! preloved, preused, whatever we call it, it saves me money and gets a new home. It is a win, for sure! That is a pretty far ride, but, it seems like you and your mom made it worth it. Was she able to get her shorts also?

Lunch sounded good! How did it taste? It truly sounds like it was a great day all the way around! Thanks for being part of #MarketFriday!

I enjoy learning about the world and how it is to live in your corner of it, and if there are solutions to making it better in any way. I find it interesting to compare, not by the world's standards, but, by how we find the quality of our life with different indicators than the world does. It is not always about the wealth in money, sometimes money means very little when there is no value behind it. You cannot buy health although you can take care of what you have. Being educated isn't always about schooling, but acquiring knowledge and using it for the better good and happiness of the society you are living in. It is with great pleasure that I read through this and all of the posts, with these thoughts in mind.

Don't miss the small things in your life, they usually make no noise but can be indicators of bigger things. I enjoy learning more about you and hope you feel the same, that is why I find it important to take the time to read a couple of #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment. It is important for a community to do this, learning about others, and getting to know each other. The fun is in getting to know people and making a positive contribution to community life. All this fun and money too. What is not to love? That is one of the reasons I joined Hive. How about you? :) I leave you with the guidelines. I hope you are having an amazing week!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

Yayyy, yep, yep, she find two good short for her. She's already using it by the way hehe. The travel and the long walk in finding for a thrift shop is so worth it.

And the lunch is just perfect. We love the dish that we ordered ❤️🤩
