Creativenonfiction #73- I procrastinated and Suffered The Consequences

I learned the hard way not to push myself beyond the limit and also stop procrastinating because too much stress can affect someone badly. Sometimes it's best to do things on time or do them little by little so that it won't take long before we complete it.

There was one particular week that I was overwhelmed with loads of work at my workplace and it happened that there was a party that I was to attend that weekend. It was the wedding ceremony of one of my cousins. My friend who was supposed to go with me told me she had other plans for that weekend and wouldn't be able to go with me but we both got the aso-ebi(attire) for the party which she kept with me and told me I would sew it for her at a later time.

One of the bad habits I had back then was procrastination. If I have any party to attend, I won't sew my clothes till the last minute because I will be busy looking for a styles to choose. So it happened that I did the same thing then. I already have it in mind that I will be sewing only my clothes since my friend won't be attending. So I figured when I got back from work that Friday I would start working on my clothes. The party was to take place on Saturday and my mum had already gone there that Friday morning to help out with the preparation.

I remember getting back home so late from work that Friday because I had loads of work to do at work. When I got home, I promised myself I would eat something after cutting my clothes. I was in the process of cutting my clothes when I got a call from my friend

"Hello girlfriend", I said into the phone sounding a bit tired.

"Hello babes, it seems I will be going to the party after all. My appointment got cancelled" she said sounding enthusiastically.

"Yay!!, it's good to know I won't be alone"

"I know it's last minute but can you help me sew my clothes since you already have my measurements?" she asked.

"I'm sorry girl, I have yet to sew my clothes and it's getting late already, maybe you can wear something else", I apologized to her.

"Alright babes, no problem, we will see tomorrow", she said after which we both hung up.

After the call, I started feeling bad seeing as she would be looking different from everyone else and I knew she might feel bad even though she said she was okay with it. Then I figured I shouldn't feel bad since it wasn't my fault but then it wasn't her fault too so I decided to surprise her and help her sew it after all. She had already told me beforehand that she wanted us to sew the same style, so I took her clothes and started cutting as well even though I was so tired.

By evening when my sister got back from her lessons, I told her to go and prepare some food which she did. After she was done cooking, she called on me to come and eat and I told her I would be there very soon by then I was done cutting both clothes. I wanted to go and eat when the electrical power came on and I decided to use that opportunity to sew and iron the clothes.

So Instead of standing up, I sat down and started sewing the clothes. I told myself I would stand up after joining one side seam but even after doing that I kept on sewing. Since the electrical power is aiding me in seeing things clearly. Even though I was very tired and so hungry, I kept on sewing. I was afraid that after eating I would be too tired to continue and might want to sleep off. It got to a point that I was using my last strength to peddle the machine. I was so tired and hungry in fact I was so weak but I didn't care about my health because I was after finishing the clothes.

All of a sudden, the power went off and everywhere was pitch black, then I knew I had to get up. Immediately I stood up, I was feeling so dizzy and it felt like my head was spinning out of control. I tried to gather my strength but my strength failed me and I crashed into the chair close to me almost falling in the process. Luckily for me, my sister was bringing the rechargeable lamp and saw me lying carelessly on the chair. She quickly rushed to my side and I told her to get me some water to drink after which I lay down.

She quickly went to dish me some food and I ate and felt relaxed, after a while I took my shower and slept off, clothes forgotten.

I had to call my friend early the next morning to tell her all that happened and that I was unable to complete both her clothes and mine. She was a but angry with me that I didn't care about my health at all and partially blamed herself for it. She quickly came over to my place to stay with me, she also brought lots of fruits on her way coming.

I was a bit unhappy that we didn't get to go to the party but my friend was having none of it. She told me to rest well and that there will always be another party another time which we will go to together. I was glad she was with me that day to keep me company. Afterwards, I slept off while my friend helped me with most of my house chores.

I learned a great deal about procrastination that day. I figured if I had already made my clothes then I would have been left with only hers and the workload wouldn't have affected me the way it did.

Thank you all for reading.

Oops! So sorry about that. Maybe if you had not procrastinated sewing your dress or eating your food at the right time, you would have met up with the wedding.
And your friend was very understanding.
This was a nice read, thanks for sharing ❤️

Yes, if only I had not procrastinated. We would have been able to attend the party.

Thank you for reading sis.

It's usually beautiful to see friends who put their friends before themselves, but it should never be done at the detriment of one's health. I'm happy that your sister was around to help cos no one knows, it might have gotten fatal.

A conscientious friend.✅

She told me to rest well and that there will always be another party another time which we will go to together.

Your friend was right, and it's great that you learned what procrastination can cause.

Overwork can destroy the functional limits of the body, luckily nothing very serious happened to you and the only thing was the rest necessary for the body.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Good day.

Taking care of your health is a must. At least you learned a lesson about procrastination and seeing to your health first. Your friend made you see the truth of things: there’s always another day for a party, but not for your health.

Procrastination can limit one's productivity. It's a dangerous time killer. One would always take it that there is time ahead to do a job at hand until it becomes too late.

It's good that your friend joined you to encourage you to take care of yourself. Health first.
