School diaries: the birthday cards

(Edited)

Our school remained closed today, as last night we had some heavy rainfall combined with strong winds that flooded roads and caused trees to fall. Because of this extreme weather there was an extended blackout at the village where I work and as a result, this morning the school building had no electricity which also translates into no heating, so the kids could not come in a cold building until the damage was fixed and the electricity came back.

On Monday though, everything was working fine and one of my little students had his birthday. During our last hour of Art class we made birthday cards for him and enjoyed listening to some music bringing a more festive atmosphere to the classroom.

I folded sheets of paper into cards and painted smiley hearts and faces and then gave them to the children to paint whatever they liked along with a few birthday wishes.

I even made one 3d pop-out card for the birthday boy. Basically, I sketched it and gave it to him to paint. It was a quick and very easy craft that turned into a birthday cake with a big number 8 candle...

That is how he colored it. Not bad, huh?

He was supposed to have a birthday party on Monday afternoon, but since we didn't meet at school today, I didn't have the chance to find out how that party went. Hopefully tomorrow everything works just fine and we can go back to our daily program again. I can't wait to discuss tht birthday party and learn all about the presents he got and how much fun they all had.

That’s not good, hope no one was hurt or died. Very nice idea and cool 3D card.
