PAPER CUT

avatar

I was writing yesterday and the while turning the pages,I felt a swift paper cut. At first,I ignored it as wee but the pain persisted and when I woke up,I saw a little blister where the cut was and honestly,it still hurts. This made me stop and somehow, I began thinking of all the 'jokes' and 'gag' that we perceive as 'small' and how they actually affect others, diarrhoea tongue as my sister would put it. There were days when my subconscious absorb so-called jokes and careless comments about my body could leave me deeply insecured and unhealthily self aware and I'm sure the people who made such comments were completely oblivious to the damage it caused and they probably considered it 'harmless'. Many times, I had to convince myself that they didn't mean it to be able to get over it. I don't intend for this article to be long so it won't be platitude, we should be kinder to people. I don't think there's anything as awful as insensitivity and nonchalance.

We should all choose our words and response carefully and try to put ourselves in people's circumstances because empathy is a serene virtue. Like Colossians 4:6 said, 'Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man'.

Thanks to @thekittygirl I am here to check out your post! This is a good analogy; even the smallest things, can turn into big things. Whether a papercut (I hope it's healing!) or a comment said that was meant as teasing or comical. If we know someone, then maybe "they" know we were only joking. But why not just treat everyone with the same respect and compassion.

This was a very relevant scripture verse... I was raised Southern Baptist, so my childhood is filled with many memories and lessons from the Bible. Another that I think is similar would be the following:

1 Thessalonians 5:11, MSG So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you’re already doing this; just keep on doing it.
