Andres Eloy Blanco was known as a distinguished poet and a renowned politician, but it turns out he was also a notable lawyer and worked as a carpenter and cabinetmaker in his spare time. In the photographs on display at his birthplace, he can be seen carving wood, and among the objects he crafted is a desk shaped like a Mexican pyramid.
We then arrive at a room furnished like a mid-20th-century office. Here, wood is a prominent feature throughout the space, and a terracotta floor—some 266 years old—can still be seen in all its splendor. A wooden carved cross, a vintage telephone, and a small statue of the poet sit atop the imposing desk.
This exhibition features some very interesting family photos, one of which shows Andres Eloy Blanco at the Abraham Lincoln monument, and another in which he is accompanied by Romulo Gallegos, another iconic Venezuelan writer. He is also depicted in two of his famous speeches delivered while he was president of the National Congress, and another image shows Blanco alongside his wife. As we approach the walls to examine what is on display there, we notice humorous writings that were used to popularize the character Juan Bimba in the 1930s.
One of the characteristics of colonial architecture is the large size of both doors and windows, which brings light into every room of the mansion, as can be seen in this room. It is understood that following the restoration and remodeling of Andres Eloy Blanco’s family home, each space was redecorated, since the Blanco-Meaño couple had eight children, six of whom survived, and there are only two bedrooms, while there is a consulting room and two offices; hence, it is plausible that the spaces that were once bedrooms were reconfigured using elements from the family library.

Andrés Eloy Blanco se destacó por ser un insigne poeta y un reconocido político, pero resulta que también fue un notable abogado y además se dedicaba a ser carpintero y ebanista en su tiempo libre. En los registros fotográficos que se exhiben en su casa natal se le aprecia tallando la madera y entre los objetos que llegó a fabricar está un escritorio cuya forma semeja a una pirámide mexicana.
Llegamos entonces a una habitación dispuesta como una oficina de mediados del siglo XX. Acá la madera resalta en todos los espacios y también un piso de terracota, de unos 266 años, aún se puede observar en todo su esplendor. Una cruz tallada en madera, un teléfono de la época y una pequeña estatua del poeta están sobre el imponente escritorio.
En este recinto se muestran fotos familiares muy interesantes, una de ellas es la de Andrés Eloy Blanco en el monumento a Abraham Lincoln y la otra siendo acompañado por Rómulo Gallegos, otro emblemático hombre de letras venezolano. También se le aprecia en dos de sus célebres discursos mientras estuvo al frente del Congreso Nacional y otra imagen nos presenta a Blanco junto a su sposa. Al aproximarnos a las paredes para constatar lo que allí hay expuesto, observamos escritos de carácter humorísticos, que serían utilizados para popularizar al personaje Juan Bimba en la década de 1930.
Una de las características de la arquitectura colonial es la gran dimensión tanto de puertas como de ventanas, lo que concede luminosidad a cada espacio de la casona, lo que se aprecia en esta habitación. Se entiende que tras el proceso de recuperación y remodelación de la vivienda familiar de Andrés Eloy Blanco, cada espacio fue nuevamente decorado, puesto que el matrimonio Blanco-Meaño procreó ocho hijos, de los cuales sobrevivieron seis, y los dormitorios apenas son dos en tanto están presentes un consultorio y dos despachos, de allí que sea factible que los espacios que antes fueron dormitorios se reacondicionaron con elementos que estaban en la biblioteca familiar.
