Coastal Promenade; Padel Club (Eng/Esp)
English version
Continuing my walk along the Cinta Costera, an area located near the Monument, I arrived at the new sports facilities that were recently inaugurated, which are located next to the outdoor exercise bars and equipment.

I was very surprised to see padel courts—a sport that isn’t deeply rooted in this state, since we’re traditionally known for boxing, swimming, baseball, cycling, and soccer. There’s also a court with beach sand set up for padel, but it can also be used to host volleyball and soccer games on that surface.

I was pleased to see maintenance staff taking care of the facility. For years, sports activities have been hampered by vandalism, particularly the removal of metal structures—including basketball hoops—a situation that hinders athletes’ development.

I hope this great space stays this way for a long time. I admit I’m not a fan of padel; at first, I thought the court was for tennis, but after noticing that the surface was suede-like carpet rather than clay—due to its color—I realized my perception was wrong, until I saw the sign that read “Cinta Costera Padel Club,” and then I understood what was right before my eyes.

Maybe I’ll walk by here in the evening to watch a live padel match, but as I mentioned, I’m more traditional when it comes to watching sports, and the idea of playing doubles tennis with paddles instead of rackets and with the ball bouncing off the walls doesn’t seem all that appealing to me. But I’ll try to give it a chance.
