My Visit to the Hernan Marin Amphitheater (Eng/Esp)

Today’s tour takes us to the Hernan Marin Amphitheater, located on Perimetral Avenue—or Cacique Maraguey, as it has been renamed. This venue was inaugurated last year and is dedicated to preserving regional culture, particularly in the areas of music and the performing arts.
Above the main entrance, you can see the musical instrument known as the cuatro, which is synonymous with Venezuela and is closely associated with Marin. The amphitheater’s structures are all in excellent condition; a striking mural occupies a large part of the field of view, while the grand grandstand and gardens featuring various ornamental plants are also visible.
The mural features singer-songwriter Hernan Marin as its central figure; his image is accompanied by other symbols that represent Cumana’s identity: the San Antonio of the Eminencia Castle, striking flowers such as cayenas, and a seascape featuring a boat, some waves, and a seagull devouring a fish. Colorful and dynamic, this artwork in the foreground welcomes visitors.
As visitors walk by and focus their gaze on the depiction of a fishing boat, it takes on a three-dimensional quality—a truly captivating experience. From the bleachers, in addition to viewing the center of the scene, visitors can also admire the sea in all its splendor.
From this grandstand, you have a privileged view of the entire art complex as well as the sports complex located next to it. This tribute to Hernan Marin complements the one dedicated to Gualberto Ibarreto at the entrance to The Peñon—tributes to two icons of Sucre’s culture. Also near the coast, you can see a heart-shaped arch, a metal structure that’s perfect for taking selfies and capturing the moment.

El recorrido de hoy nos lleva a las instalaciones del anfiteatro Hernán Marín, ubicado en la avenida Perimetral, o Cacique Maraguey como ha sido rebautizada. Este espacio fue inaugurado el año pasado y está destinado a la preservación de la cultura regional, sobre todo en lo que respecta a la música y las artes escénicas.
En lo alto de la entrada principal se aprecia el instrumento musical conocido como cuatro, que identifica a Venezuela, elemento que se asocia a Marín. Este anfiteatro posee todas sus estructuras en muy buen estado, un mural vistoso ocupa gran parte del campo visual, en tanto se aprecia además la gran tribuna y jardines con diversas plantas ornamentales.
El mural tiene al cantautor Hernán Marín como su centro de atención, allí su imagen está acompañada de otros símbolos que constituyen referentes de la identidad cumanesa: el Castillo San Antonio de la Eminencia, flores llamativas como las cayenas, un paisaje marino donde destacan un bote, algunos defines y una gaviota devorando un pescado. Colorido y dinámica se aprecia en primer plano, una obra de arte que da la bienvenida a los visitantes.
A medida que el visitante camina y fija su mirada en una representación de un bote de pesca, la misma adquiere tridimensionalidad, toda una sensación. Desde las gradas, además de observar el centro del escenario, también se puede apreciar el mar en todo su esplendor.
Desde esta tribuna se tiene una visión privilegiada de todo el complejo artístico y también del deportivo ubicado al lado. Este reconocimiento a Hernán Marín complementa el realizado a Gualberto Ibarreto en la entrada de El Peñón, homenajes a dos íconos de la cultura sucrense. También cerca de la costa se aprecia un arco en forma de corazón, una estructura de metal que es ideal para tomar selfies e inmortalizar el momento.
