Strolling along the Marina Plaza Pier (Eng/Esp)
English version
Another day to breathe in the fresh air and gaze at the blue sky and sea from a different perspective. This time, I took a stroll along the pier at Marina Plaza, a very famous shopping center in Cumana, located on Avenida Perimetral. During its opening year, it was a huge sensation because its facilities included a McDonald’s and a Cinex movie theater. Young people used to pack the place on Saturday nights. But after the pandemic hit, the place fell into decline and now looks deserted.

Although the location is prime in terms of visibility, access by public transportation isn’t usually that easy because the only bus line that passes through here runs only a few buses a day—and that’s because Marina Plaza lost public interest when many of the stores closed their doors, including a supermarket and two bank branches, and the Social Security office was moved to the city center.

The marina is a recreational port with an architectural design that blends seamlessly with the sea; it not only serves as a dock for boats, motorboats, and yachts but is also a family recreation area where visitors can enjoy the scenery and the sea breeze.

It also features navigable channels ideal for mooring and sheltering various types of vessels. Some boats are available for rent for sailing or even for hosting parties on the water.

You can also enjoy a good meal at the restaurants still located here, which offer a spectacular view. Watching the sunset from here is a sublime experience, but today I came in the morning to relax for a while amid the marine environment and take a break from my daily routine.
