The shot worth taken

avatar

Fidgeting at this moment wouldn't cost my life but our hopes and dreams can be crashed in a minute. With a heavy breath, Aqlin kept the ball on the ground while thinking and searching his eye through the players while finding none of his own members nearby. Everyone is cheering, Aqlin couldn't take it anymore. He had to be quick, nothing would wait for him. Time never waits for anyone.

The world is not at a halt for him. If he prolongs this silence and still movement any longer it might be open for question. Tossing all the opportunities of winning aside, he had to at least make it possible, with lots of risk at his own stake, he pushed the ball with all might to a player at the farthest end with no enemies.

This one-shot caused the game to come to an end and none other than the blue team won. It was now in the headlines of how the shot was made, many predictions and many assumptions with praises flooded the screen but none other than Aqlin knew how it all felt inside of him. That moment was a legit nightmare and yet, now this moment is a treasure. This moment of glorification could not be achieved without that nightmare. However, that moment was recorded in uncountable words by many speakers but none could resonate with what I felt inside of me.

Even after weeks, that shot was remembered by everyone but with different memory. All I can say about it now is that it was a shot worth taking, I had my teammates all stranded on the ground, some were struggling to come close while others lost hope too quickly. I had to give my best even though I couldn't guarantee my shot would be right but all I could do was hope and give my best. It is true that not even once was I confident but I was searching madly for a spot to hit on, a spot that was clear and less of enemies. My heart was pounding and every second seemed to wreck it.

At this minute moment, whomever I glanced at gave me a negative response, so all I had to do is choose my target all by myself. Although the headlines beam and cheer for the win, no one is aware of the tormenting remains that is still inside of me. It is not like a trauma but rarely will I be able to forget it easily.

Soon another match will be coming up but I guess I will have a good amount of time until then. Time heals everything, does it not? I am glad that in the end, I was not in the headlines, it was my team and Anbil, Anbil hit the goal. At that moment, Anbil was the only one alone without any opponents bothering him and within my range. He was the farthest I could pull up, I guess.

I always believed and will continue to believe that football is not one man's game and that every player matters. I was way disappointed when not even one person gave me a signal that they could handle the ball, I was temporarily agitated but now when I think about it I can understand better. None of them were prepared to take the catch, if I would have given the ball to them, we would have surely lost the match.

Finally, I can reflect on the whole picture now, and it feels less tiresome and intriguing. I am glad the day ended but surely it will be memorable. My heart lost its pace and I knew what it was for, football, and that is all that matters for a die-heart fan like me.

This was so nice to read. I’m not really a football fan but I interpreted this in another way. Time waits for no one so lets make hay while the sun shines.

This interpretation is good I would say. It is relatable.

This story was like experiencing first person that breathtaking feeling every football player has at some decisive moment of a match. Well done!

Yes, you got my theme. I wanted to deliver that emotion, that the player feels right then and the everlasting effect of it.

You captured a few critical moments in time at the end of the game, which resulted in the win. It makes a good story, especially as told from the point of view of the player making that all important pass to Anbil. Thanks for sharing your story in The Ink Well!

So much can happen in a matter of a few moments. The forward must assess the field, look for open players, deduce who is in the best position to run with it or score, and then make the pass before it's too late. The player chose well and executed the pass perfectly. It is definitely a game in which playing as a team is crucial.

Yes, YES, very much true. Football is never a one-man game no matter how much people claim it to be. You got my point. That moment of decision is all that it takes to make the entire game a lose or win.
