3Speak Mobile App will accept custom IPFS End point
Hello 3Speak Community Members,
With this post, I'll share some details of the features on which I'm currently working on.
For this specific post, I'll talk about IPFS feature of Mobile app.
Current IPFS Feature on 3Speak Mobile App
- So far, 3Speak mobile uses a default End-point for IPFS.
- Meaning that, whatever video you play using 3Speak Mobile App, video is being played using 3Speak's infrastructure.
- Whatever thumbnail gets downloaded on mobile app, it is downloaded using 3Speak Infrastructure.
- Whenever you upload a video, video gets uploaded to 3Speak's server. After the upload, 3Speak pins it to it's own IPFS Storage.
Why do we need a feature to allow user to enter custom endpoint for IPFS?
- 3Speak Mobile app is meant to support Decentralisation
- With this feature, user can change IPFS End point & stream videos from IPFS storage services other than 3Speak's.
- With this, we properly implement Decentralisation concept
Why now?
- Now that we have many IPFS Storage node providers, I believe this is a right time to introduce such feature.
- I believe, almost a year ago @techcoderx requested for this feature when he was implementing 3Speak Video upload feature on his web-app.
- I would like to thank him with this post for continuously sharing his feedback & suggestions
How does it look?
- As a user, all you have to do is, open quick-access-menu from bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Tap on Settings

Where is it? How do I try?
- Those changes are yet under development & testing.
- I am working on pushing a new version on AppStore & PlayStore.
- So, most probably this feature will be available in the next release.
- You'll have to wait till next release of the mobile app.

Looks like some great features.
Indeed. According to me, one of the best feature - you can point to any IPFS node & view videos. This means that, even if any government targets 3Speak infra & try to take website down, 3Speak app will be still functioning
That was a nice feature of the app, but sadly the app is not listed on Huawei AppGallery so I can't download the 3Speak app. I hope it will be listed soon 🤗
If you wish, I can share the link of APK using Dropbox. And from there, you can easily install the app even without the Huawei AppGallery. If you're okay, I'll share the link.
