Sam’s Hangout #127 - “BRUTAL HONESTY OR PEACEFUL LIES?"

Hello, my lovely Hive Naija people. It’s another beautiful weekend, and we’re excited to have you here once again. A new weekend simply means another chance to buzz the Hive blockchain, connect with one another, and simply have fun. You'll also agree with me that there’s something special about bringing everyone together to gist, share opinions, and enjoy good vibes. That is exactly the reason we will continue to meet every weekend.

OBJECTIVE
Sam's Hangout is focused on promoting the togetherness of the Nigerian brethren through active engagement on the blockchain. Beyond that, it is also centered towards the wellbeing of everyone who takes part in our weekend discussions and helps keep our discord running with their presence.
Note that this account was created to make the engagement more personal and official. You can check out the INTRODUCTION POST to learn more about our purpose and vision.
Please, do not forget to follow this account so you don’t miss out on future hangout posts and updates.
Our previous topic was ”SIMPLY LIVING OR PERFORMING?"

The responses were super amazing and we had over 40 comments filled with honest opinions, jokes, harmless banter, and fresh perspectives to learn from. The energy was truly contagious. Now, let’s see if we can beat our all-time high again this weekend, shall we? Please try to encourage responses by replying to one another. Remember, engagement is what makes this hangout special.

HOW OUR WEEKEND HANGOUT WORKS
A topic will be dropped every Friday on this account. Do well to share your thoughts, respond to someone else’s opinion, and feel free to interrogate or add more context on it respectfully. If you don’t have anything new to add, simply reply to another comment in agreement. We encourage you to tag your friends to join the discussion so we can have a fuller house.
All interactions should happen in the comment section, because that’s where the real gist goes down.

This week's hangout starts immediately this post goes live and ends on Sunday by 11:59 pm.

BRUTAL HONESTY OR PEACEFUL LIES?
Now to our discussion for this weekend! We will be discussing "BRUTAL HONESTY OR PEACEFUL LIES?”.
Honesty is often said to be the foundation of genuine relationships, and therefore, encouraged in many close-knit communities. But not every truth is easy to hear or necessary to say. Sometimes, telling the truth can hurt people, or create conflicts that may have been avoided through silence. Other times, a harmless lie can preserve peace while quietly allowing a problem to grow. This raises questions about the advantages or consequences that both honesty and silence comes with.
Here's the question!
If you have a topic you would like us to discuss in our future hangouts, please feel free to suggest it to us in the comment section and tag @sam.hangout to it.
Okay Let's Gist!!!

Don't you think we are forgetting somebody?... Well, I'm sure we are...

FRIDAY PLANS, OWANBE SATURDAY, AND SUNDAY REFLECTIONS
To make our hangout more interactive, we have decided to add two events to spice it up.
On Saturdays, we share our owanbe stories, party gists, and even pictures.
On Sundays, we reflect on the weekend and things we learnt so far, as well as share plans for the new week.
Don't forget to join us!!

There are no strict rules as regards this weekend hangout. Feel free to speak any Nigerian language you like, whether Igbo, Yoruba, pidgin, Efik, or others, as long as it can be understood.
With all that said, let the discussion begin...

Do you believe people should always choose honesty, even when the truth could hurt someone or destroy a relationship? In difficult situations where the peace can be disrupted by your honesty, how do you determine when it is necessary to tell the truth or stay silent?
Answer.
Yes, I believe honesty should come first. Because at the end, it saves one from future impediment. Everyone needs peace, and sometimes trying to maintain peace with secrecy only make matters worse at the end. We can't save what's pure(peace) with what's morally wrong(lies).
The myth that truth could destroy a relationship only happens when honesty wasn't the foundation from the start. Truth hurt, but time heals and people at any given time will choose truth over lies. Truth hurts but lies destroys in the nearest future.
Wisdom is profitable to direct and that's why there's time to tell the truth and time to withheld the truth.. most times I tell people certain things when they're calm and in good spirit. Or when I believe they're mature enough to handle certain truth. But for a relationship, honesty should be the foundation even before the bricks of the relationship are laid.
This is an interesting topic 😄😅

Hello people of Nigeria 👋🤗
No, I don't think so that people stay always honest to others at some point they start to told withheld truth to really protect others. If we speak a lie which could save other's then i always prefer to save other's instead of speaking truth especially when stay silent can save others.
I think we should judge the situation if it'll goes much worse with our truth then we should stay silent and when we can really protect others because sometimes honesty not need too much and we've to protect other's feelings.
I don't remember at the moment exact time when i did this but usually I prefer to stay silent in according to situation.
Have a happy weekend 😊
Awwnnn 🥰 it's so nice to have you here.... I support what you said as well. We can just stay silent instead of lieing and I guess those silence sometimes speaks the truth on our behalf
Yeah those silence speak so much in itself
Yeah I'm here because of you guy's, some Nigerian and i know almost all of them ❤️
Telling the truth, simply because it's obviously the truth without considering how the other person might feel about hearing it is something I don't support. We shouldn't ignore how an information affects a person because we just want to be brutally honest. Being honest should be accompanied by empathy and wisdom, the truth can be communicated gently and at the appropriate time.
Inasmuch as silence is an option or a good approach in most cases, when important things are being affected, like the health, safety, finance and family of a person are involved, they really deserve to know. We should always choose kindness when telling the truth.
@marsdave @goldenproject @afrikens @chefqueen it's hangout time again 🥳
Yhaann I'm here o. You did not save rice for me
In my opinion, I feel I can be honest without saying every truth the moment I know it. First, I always ask myself if the truth I want to say is necessary and if it's to the right person and whether the truth I want to say will help the situation on ground or just unload it. Because sometimes, and with what I've seen, it's better to just remain silent and protect someone's feelings maybe temporarily or for long. But if that truth has something hidden that they need to know rightfully, and have the right to know it or will allow harm to continue, I believe tell the person so it won't turn into deception. And personal, the difference is kindness can slow down or soften the truth. And if I choose to be deceptive, it means I'm hiding it for my personal convenience
My 2 cent.
Happy weekend lovely people 🌹

For me I believe honesty is important in everything and whatever relationship we're trying to build or whatever situation we want to save based on not hurting the other party's feeling because lies will definitely come back to hurt the person when the honest truth finally comes out so why not just speak the truth. I believe whatever comes out of the situation in telling the truth is only going to last for a while unlike when the truth is let open. The scar it leaves last very long more than we could think it will.
Brutal truths!!!
I feel somethings are better left unsaid. Even in relationships, saying everything most times brings in problem. Considering people's feeling when talking is good, even if the truth must be said, there are better ways to present it so that the person won't be hurt. Truth is not always pleasant but making it brutal should not be applied in everycase. In some situation it will be wise, to cover things up.
There was this case that trended on Facebook, about bobrisky and cubana chief priest. The saga was about EFCC Getting them arrested for spraying money extravagantly and having no respect for the currency.
When they were tried differently, cubana chief priest said he was not guilty, and was able to exonorate himself. Bobrisky being the good one agreed He/She was guilty and was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment. In some situations, wisdom should be applied, not everycase deserve saying things as it is.
@nkemakonam89 @marsdave @kilvnrex @nsigo1 @justfavour
Being honest is good. And the truth is, no matter how good your lies maybe , one day tge truth will be revealed.
So i feel people should just be honest, but yoi must understand the timing. There are some truth that you should know when to say it and when to delay.
