Good/bad: Can good people do bad things and bad people do good things?

Hello friends of Hive! I hope you are having a great weekend. It's my first time to participate in the weekend engagement, so I'm feeling quite encouraged about that. This time I would like to join the 155th weekend engagement, suggested by @galenkp. Within the proposals to topics to choose from I wanted to take the one of: Good bad, seeking to answer the question Can good people do bad things and bad people do good things?

However, before answering that question, I would like to start by explaining my perspective on:

What is a good and a bad person?

To explain it I will go to the moment we are born, when we are a blank page, that day by day is forging emotional ties, and as time goes by we acquire experiences, our personality and the vision with which we will see the world is being formed, morals, ethics, values, beliefs, our individual conception of what is right and wrong. Within these processes there is influence of our environment, family, friends, school, community, country, culture; genetic and psychological aspects also intervene.

In short, each person constitutes his or her own way of seeing, understanding and doing "good" or "bad" acts. Having said this, I could say that we are what we build as we go through our lives, and considering whether someone is good or bad is a rather difficult question due to the subjectivity involved.

Now, can good people do bad things and bad people do good things?

To answer this, first I have to consider that a person is good or bad, taking into account their usual behaviors if they tend to be towards acts considered good or inclined to the bad ones, in addition, if this person shares their thoughts with us we would already have a slightly broader notion of them, because of course, we can appreciate the behaviors but not what may be behind them. Then we would have in mind a person who according to our concept is good or bad.

In both cases, my answer is yes, because we are not a square that acts exactly the same every day, we are a line that moves forward, that sometimes goes up and sometimes goes down, that is to say, we are changing beings.

I will give two examples: a person who yells at his secretary constantly at work, one day he may come and apologize. Likewise, in the case of a person who is frequently active collaborating with the rescue of dogs and cats in street situations, one day he may simply leave and not continue with the work, and be seen as a bad person for that. There can be many examples of ambivalences like these.

Another important aspect is the personal interests that influence how we can act, since although we can have very clear concepts of what is good and what is not, but sometimes we skip those rules because we have an interest that may be more relevant than maintaining morale. And here I can also explain it with an example, we can see a person who has his job and does it in the best way, he is hardworking and friendly with his colleagues, but a promotion comes and this person puts as a priority to have this new position, then the person does questionable things like copying in an exam where he was going to know his level of knowledge about the area of work, the person is doing something bad for a personal interest, although in most cases he does good acts.

That is, people do not always act in a certain way, and we have so many facets in our lives that it would be impossible to be the same with everyone at all times.

On the other hand, something very important are the perspectives of each person about what is considered good and bad, in this case I will use another example: two people worked in the same place, one has information that would facilitate the work to the other person, but this does not facilitate it. For his co-worker this person is bad, but for the person it is right not to share his information because it is not his duty to do so. It is the same act, but with different perspectives of what is wrong and right. Moral judgments are really subjective.

I think issues like this give a lot to question and not in others, but in oneself, because the only ones who have a clear idea of why we do what we do are ourselves. And beyond being good or bad, which is a label with which I do not like to define people, we are human beings trying to live life and not die trying.

I hope you have enjoyed this reading, I enjoyed answering the question, I am from Venezuela and I speak Spanish, for this publication I had to translate what was written, so I apologize if there are mistakes. Thank you for reading me❤️.
