The Centipede
Once upon a time
Time, a few hours or days ago
I talked a bit about fear of not being scared
Now, it’s time to uncover
A creepy tiny veil
It’s just a one off to honor the halloweek
Long overcame the weakness, though the memory tingles
On my bed I was, watching ‘the Flash’
Having some fun with Barry
Excited, turning to the action and rhythm
Amidst the loud sound from my earpiece
I heard a movement on my carpet
I took a pause to find what it is
So fast, in a flash, I guess it’s tiny
Or is it the flash?
A funny coincidence
Watching ‘the flash’ and missing the tiny flash
I turned back to my movie
It’s my house after all
Whatever shows up should be cautious
Not me the landlord
Before the calming thoughts were complete
A quick rush again!
This time with sounds
Like nails quickly scratching a surface
I knew there was trouble!

Could crabs find a way in?
Or reptiles? Or what?
As I took my torch
Right in the corner of my room
Stood the big culprit with well loaded venom
The black, shining widow!
Ready to strike as shown by its stance
With its many legs, its confidence was intact
I was almost shaking
As if it smelt my fear
With its pincers and venomous stings
It rushed towards the light
My instincts stepped in
And a single sandal I picked, ended its plight!
****End****
Such a nice contemporary poem. The sound you described that the bug made makes me want to cringe!
🙂Spooky indeed.. thank you for your comment. 🤗
