Appreciate People's Input

One of the things that I have learnt in life is that there is no absolutely self-made human. In every field of human endeavour, any successful person you see is actually the result of the input of other people. It is a high level of pride to think that you got everything you have achieved by your singular input. If you know that others helped you on your way to destiny, then you will know when to appreciate the input of people. You may not have gotten the entire support from the people you have expected, but you have gotten some forms of support from others. So appreciate it.

No one outgrows the need to seek for help. As a matter of fact, you are so limited to be able to achieve everything you want alone. In fact, if you are waiting for when you will become a sole-achiever, you will wait for so long. Everyone is a subset of another person. This is why, if you want to become a professional, in a particular field, you will have to be trained by someone else who has gained mastery in that field. And the same person would have also been trained by someone else. This shows how we need others in order to achieve greatness.

To think that you owe no one an appreciation for anything that you have achieved is to think in pride. No wonder a lot of people treat others with anyhowness, simply because they think they have achieved success alone. One thing to understand is that even if you do not see people's input in your life, it is still there and it does not take away that fact. Take this instance; if you are a professor today, you should remember that you were once a student and was taught by others to ascend unto the height which you are now. In the same way, if you are a pilot, you were once instructed by a senior pilot to learn how to fly. So understand the place of people in your life.

When you realise that you need people to succeed, you will treat people rightly, and then appreciate their input. Humans are like the bridge that you need to cross over to your desired destination. Treat the person you meet today well, because of tomorrow. The person that helped you on your way out, might be the same person that you will need on your way in. But if you do not value their initial input, you may not get the latter. It does not cost anything to show appreciation and to value people, rather you stand to gain a lot of things that material things may not even be able to buy. One of the greatest assets to anyone is human connection. This is why human capital development is very important.

In one of the interviews that was granted by my mentor, he was asked how he was able to raise so much financial support that he has. He smiled and responded that he just knows how to build relationships with people. He also said that "you do not need to raise money per se, just raise people and they will raise the money." This is why I still maintain that the relationship you create with people should be valued because they are like the network you need to achieve your goal. In a football team for example; even though you are the best striker in the world, you will still need a connection with the midfielder to pass the ball to you so that you can score. If no one connects to you, how will you score goals? Same way in life, without people in your life, making progress will be limited.

When you know you owe people some "thank you," you will not need to be reminded to do the needful. If you appreciate someone for their acts towards you today, no matter how little they may look, then you have positioned yourself for a bigger help tomorrow. More so, appreciation makes you a better human. People would love to do things for you, and even go extra mile just for your course if they know that you will appreciate their input, not someone who will feel entitled and full of ingratitude.
