Be Focused On Your Goal

To get to your destination, there is a need for you to choose a direction, then this will help you to stay focused. Obviously, trying to be everywhere at the same time is to be nowhere. If you plant a seed and you keep transplanting it every now and then, it will not grow and it may stand the risk of dying. Being focused in life is one of the vital requirements to achieving greatness. Focus simply means that you have a definite objective and goal that you want to fulfil.

You will agree with me that when you focus on a particular task without being distracted, you tend to have more speed and accuracy in achieving that particular task than when you are multitasking. You brain tends to concentrate more when you are focused on one task at a time than trying to do many things at the same time. Like someone studying for his exams and watching his favourite TV show at the same time and then trying to prepare his launch. He will end up being slowed down and may not achieve much from the tasks.

When I was much younger, we normally travelled to the village during the holiday periods and in some times, we normally engaged in bush hunting where we hunted wild rats. I discovered one thing from the hunting expedition. The rats normally hid in underground tunnel with two entrances. So to catch the rats, we normally blocked one of the entrances of the tunnel and then create a disturbance in the other entrance. This will cause the rats to run out of the tunnel. While running out, they normally flock out in dozens and if you want to catch all of them at once, you will end up not catching anyone. What you need to do is to focus on just one rat and pursue after it and the chances of catching it becomes maximized. This taught me the power of focus.

There is a kind of ease that comes when you are focused. There are some forms of multitasking that are counterproductive. The person will end up not gaining speed, being less productive, and becoming stressed. Before you engage in multitasking process, ask yourself if you can do each task individually and produce a better result than multitasking. It is through the answer that you will determine if you still want to go ahead with multitasking. When you give your whole attention towards a particular thing, it is easier to achieve perfection.

When medical doctors graduate from general medicine, they will be required to focus and specialise on a particular branch of medical and then study it extensively. This will make the doctor become specialist and then achieve mastery in that area instead of trying to focus on all branches of medicine at the same time. In the world of ICT for example, there are many branches (like programming, networking, graphic design, etc) that someone can focus on and and it will be easier to achieve mastery than trying to do a little bit of everything. With focus, mastery is easier to achieve and excellence can be attained easily.

When you set a goal in life, you have to keep your attention focused on it, so as to see it fulfilled. Even when the path to your destination seems undulating, it should not discourage you from undertaking the journey to your destination. By focusing on your dream, you already have a fair chance of achieving it and you will create more ways to get it achieved. When footballers compete on the field, especially in the finals of a league match, the reason why they put in so much zeal and determination is because they are focused on winning the league title. So they will not want anything to distract them. In the same way, you should not give room to distraction when pursuing after your dreams in life but you should maintain your focus.
