Converting Setback To Comeback

avatar

More often than not, the success of anyone (or lack of it) is not dependent on what happens to the person but how they have responded to the happenings. The same thing that happened to you can happen to others and will lead to two different results simply because of the differences in response to it. If you always see challenges as setbacks, then they will become your limitations but if you see them as stepping-stones, then they will lead to your elevation. You may not be able to determine what happens to you, but you have a choice of how to react or respond to it. Even if you have suffered a setback before, it does not mean that you cannot have a mind-blowing comeback.

There are times that what people refer to as setbacks are just some steps that need to be taken back so as to have a better and more resounding comeback. During my high school days, I was involved in long jump activities and I was part of the students to represent the school in the state's inter-schools competition. During the training of the long jump, the coach explained about the nitty-gritty of long jump. I then asked him why do the competitors take some steps back before the run to jump. He turned to me and simply told me that those steps taken back are needed to have an effective jump.

After the competition, I tried to reflect on the words of the coach and I found out that those back steps are not setbacks but they are steps taken in order to have a better comeback. The same way, in life, there are times that situations may be rough or not going according to plan but it is not completely useless because you can use the situation and leverage on it to become better and to scale new heights. The only situation that can be termed "useless" is the one that did not teach you anything of value and did not make you better. But as long as you became better with it, then it is a plus to you.

No matter the fierceness of the challenge that you have to face, you can still turn it to your favour. The same boisterous wave that capsizes other ships is what a sail-ship uses to navigate to its destination. Truly, you may not be able to stop the boisterous waves of the sea from arising, but you can direct you sail. It is the same stormy wind that carries off other birds that the eagle will leverage on to soar. So you see, the prevailing situation is not the reason why you are not making progress, it is because you have not responded positively to it. You are not the only one passing through intense times; many others are passing through worse times and they have successfully turn it to their ally and leveraged on it to become better.

A story was told of a little horse that mistakenly fell into the ditch and all attempts by the owner to bring it out seemed futile because of the way the ditch was. So in frustration and having lost all ideas of what to do, he decided to use the sand heap beside the ditch to cover up the ditch and forget about the little horse. However, he noticed that as he poured the sand to cover the horse, the horse would just shake off the sand and then climbed a bit on top of it. As the process continued, the horse repeated the same act and each time, he would climb higher. At last, the ditch was almost filled with sand but instead of the horse being buried, the horse was on top of the sand. The same sand that was initially supposed to bury the horse was what the horse used to climb out of the ditch.

In life, what comes around you can be what will be used to bring about your desired breakthrough. This is the reason you have to always look beyond the surrounding situation and always see positivities in everything. The trend of event around you may not be as you have intended it to be, but it can serve as your tool for advancement. So do not conclude it as useless. Of course, it can also teach lessons to be better.

Peace on y'all

We should never feel as though challenges is a setback because they are supposed to be stepping stones for us to greatness.
