Creating Your Own Opportunities [Part 2]

avatar

Over the years, I have come to the realisation that everyone is almost absolutely responsible for the outcome of their lives. Waiting for someone to create the enabling environment for you to succeed might cause you to wait in vain. You should know that people will not hand opportunities into your hands, rather you are the one that is meant to create the opportunity you want. Just to let you know, the world is moving very fast and people are getting more busy by the day, so you do not have to wait for people to create opportunities for you. We have looked at some ways to create opportunities in our last episode and we will take a look at some more here.

1. Learn from the knowledge of others

The truth is that there is a certain perspective about life that you may never be able to see until you have welcomed someone else's idea. More often in your life, you should learn to reach out to other people - Have a view from their own perception of life. You will be surprised at that opportunities that may be shared by reaching out to people. If you think that you can make it in life with zero input from others, then you are not being truthful to yourself. For you to make it, there is also a part that others will play in your life too. You can create and share opportunities by rubbing minds together.

You will be surprised how the knowledge that took someone many years to accumulate can be passed on to you in a moment. You will agree with me that the more receptive you are to opportunities is a direct function of the level of your knowledge. When interacting with the right people on a particular subject matter, you are constantly having an open mind about that subject matter instead of an empty mind. This is why you have to surround and associate yourself with positive and right people. If your friends do not help you to see opportunities in life or if they constantly dissuade you from taking advantage of opportunities, then you need to change your friends. I remember what a friend once said:

When bad friends gather, they will discuss about people. When good friends gather, they will discuss about events. But when great friends gather, they will discuss about opportunities.

The people you acquaint yourself with have a huge part to play in the outcome of your life. Instead of gathering and discussing about people or about events, great friends discuss about opportunities. What makes a great friendship is that it makes you better than you were. So if you are not better after you're friends with someone, then their friendship is not meant for you.

2. Seek for more knowledge; keep learning

There is a level of opportunity that comes with learning. The more you learn, the more you discover that there have been opportunities that are constantly flying over your head each day. Learning opens you more to the vast opportunities that lie in life itself. There is a popular quote that says:

Each time you open a book, opportunities are opened to you.

In this era of ICT, you can lay your hand on soft copy materials and read without having to physically possess the hard copy. As a matter of fact, the information you can get on the web is almost limitless, so you should take advantage of the wide reach of the internet to broaden your horizon. The opportunities may not even come from your own area or field, so learn wide and not just be limited to a particular field. As a matter of fact, if the only thing you know in life is centered on just your own particular field, then you are already limited.

The reason why you should make learning a lifestyle is because there is a level of growth and there is a level of opportunity you cannot be exposed to until you grow in knowledge. No wonder why it is being said that "learning is growing."

Peace on y'all
