Dignity In Being Engaged In Work

It does not matter what you do to earn a living, as long as it is legal and right, then you should be proud of it. It is still better working than sitting and waiting for things to be given to you. I remember during my high school days, after the close of the term, I and my friends normally did some little jobs during the vacation to earn some money. By the time the school resumes, we would have had enough money for snacks to last us at least till the middle or end of the term. Imagine the feeling that comes when you see something that you want and you can afford it. This is why I normally tell people that work is a vital necessity of life.

One of my mentors once said that "hard work is the access route to escape a hard life" and I see truism in it. When I finished from school and was doing my internship program, there was this particular guy that normally comes around to help with some works even though he was not a worker because there was no space again for new intakes. At the end of the day, he will be given some tips and he will go. The next day, he will come back for more works and he continued like that instead of just staying at home and waiting for job to fall on him. After a while of doing that, he was able to couple up some money and started a road-side cooking and food vending business even as a graduate.

Some people asked him sarcastically how a graduate can do food vending business on the road-side and a man for that matter, but he refused to be ashamed of his hustles. The business started very small with just some few foodstuffs, but as he put commitment into it, he grew it and at the moment, he now buys foodstuffs in bags and would finish them in days and buy some more. He now earns more from his food business than what he would have earned working in the organisation. If he had been hoping for jobs to open for him, he may have waited for long, but he created his own job.

The truth is that what you need to be engaged in a work is a functional brain. As long as your brain is active, then you can think of something to do. Even if the government does not provide jobs for you, try to create the kind of job that you want for yourself. Even as a salary earner too, you have to also know that you may not get the kind of money you need by just dependent on your salary, you also need a side hustle to help you out. There is a kind of financial freedom that salary may not provide for you except you are among a very highly paid staff like senior executive. But with extra sources of income from other side hustles, you can achieve that.

Engaging in work is honourable and it is not something to be ashamed of, as long as it is the right thing. In fact, instead of sitting, waiting, and wishing for someone give you fish, which may not even be available at all times, it is better you learn how to fish so that you can have the fish whenever you want. In order to find something worthwhile to do, you might even consider getting a skill, learning something new that can give you an edge. In this era, there are lots of opportunities that one can see even online, that one can use to improve on their skills or acquiring new skills. For example, you can get video tutorials from YouTube, document from the web, etc. All these can be great tutorials to help one acquire skills.

Trust me, the person you may be hoping on to support you with your needs might be facing some very really big challenges than yours, so you do not have to expect much from people. If you are engaged actively in work, there are things you do not have to wait to be done for you. Money will work for you when you put your hands to work. The world is already getting so busy and fast-evolving that you do not have to wait for anyone for things that you can comfortably do for yourself. It is actually better to ask someone for work than for your needs to be met. This is because if they meet your needs, you will still be in needs again. But if they give you work, you can meet your needs at anytime.
