Don't Just Live For Yourself, Live For Others Too

There is something that I have always believed in and I want to share it here; " the best form of life anyone can ask for is not a life for just their own personal gains but living for others." The only thing that will make maximum meaning to someone in need is nothing but a helping hand. A cold glass of water that you offer to someone that is thirsty is worth more than a thousand motivational speeches. People will appreciate more of your helps than your words. This is why your goodness should be in deeds and not just in words. Learn to live for others.

Sometimes, it is not the size of the help that matters but the readiness and availability of the help. A few months back, I remember an experience I had with a particular woman. One hot afternoon, I went to a particular shop to buy a few things, then a woman came into the shop looking very thirsty. She had a 1000 Naira note in her hand and demanding for a sachet water which goes for 20 Naira. The shop owner looked at the woman and just told her that she does not have change and cannot sell to her. At that point, I reached out to my pocket and handed over 20 Naira to the shop owner and she gave her the water. After she had taken the water, the kind of joy that came to her face was amazing. At that point, I realized that the quantity of help does not matter as much as the heart from which it comes from and the availability.

As each day passes, you need to make out time to extend a helping hand to people, not because they can pay you back, but because it makes you a better human. If you have ever been in need of help, you will understand the value of help. I am sure that you must have received help at some point in your life, in the same way, you are expected to render help to others. Helping people should not be what you do occasionally but what you do again and again. I remember a humorous statement by an old friend was said:

You were given two hands so that you can use one to help yourself and then use the other one to help others.

As humans, our humanity requires that we should show kindness to others. Many people are already passing through hard and challenging times that it may be your help that can keep them afloat in the waters of life. You will be surprised how your little acts of kindness might be what someone needs to keep going. Sometimes, it may not even be material things, even an idea, a smile, a listening ear, kind words, or even a sincere compliment, might be all that they will ever need to make their day awesome. Each time you have an opportunity to show kindness or help someone, see it as an opportunity to create a positive impact in their lives and in the world at large.

Right with the seemingly little that you have and in your own capacity, there is something that you can help someone with. The truth is that if you cannot give from the little that you have and if you cannot help someone at the level you are, you are most likely not going to give nor help someone when you have much. Helping people is not a function of the largeness of your pocket but the largeness of your heart towards people.

One of the ways to making each day to count is by living for others - by helping others and by putting smiles in their faces. The truth is that what you make to happen for others is also made to happen for you. If you help others on their way to success, you will also receive help on your own way to success. It is worthy to note that everyone needs someone to succeed in life. Always remember that the help you show to someone today may come back to you tomorrow.
