Finding And Aligning With Your Purpose [Part 1]

For everyone that is living, there is a unique purpose they are meant to fulfil, which is, oftentimes, a product of their individual responsibility to discover. This is why, the journey to self-discovery is one that is supposed to be done on personal basis. One needs to understand that, even though everyone has been endowed with unique abilities and purposes to fulfil, they will still need to find it out themselves and then put actions into it to actualize it. Trust me, no great destiny is delivered by accident or by doing nothing, but by putting extensive work into what is required. That being said, we shall take a look at ways in which one can find their purpose. That is, things that can point one to the right direction of what they are to fulfil in life.

There are many ways to discover what you are cut out for - that is your purpose, but we shall take a few of them in this part. Firstly, you have to find out what you have passion for. No matter what your background is and without recourse to your educational status, there is at least one very particular thing that you feel the zeal to do and do well. In fact, the thoughts of doing it normally excites you. This could be a very strong pointer to your purpose, which you need to unleash. It does not matter what the people around you are doing, even your friends and family, it does not mean that you should do the same thing if you are not passionate about it. The journey to self-discovery and uncovering one's purpose is an individual adventure.

In the neighbourhood where I stayed for sometime many years ago, there was this young boy whose parents were doctors, so they also wanted him to trail after their paths and become a doctor too. However, he discovered that he did not have passion for the profession, but he was so passionate about football. In fact, within the neighbourhood, he was the one organizing street soccer with a few other kids. He was able to convince his parents that he wanted to become a professional footballer. After he finished from secondary school, they helped to secure admission into a football academy for him and that was about the time when the U-17 world Cup was played. Luckily, he was selected to represent the country in the competition and he performed excellently well.

After the competition, many big clubs came to bid for him and at the end, he chose the one that suited his taste. Now, he is doing well in the game of football and earning huge salary, which is he using part for community services. All these were possible because he followed after what he had passion for and there, he discovered his purpose. If he had gone with what his parents had initially wanted, he may not have made as much impact in the community as he is currently making with football. Each time you follow what you have passion for, it will be easier to discover your purpose in life there.

Apart from passion, another pointer towards your purpose is to discover what you feel at peace doing - something that you can do with ease, yet your mind will be very peaceful. Anything that makes you very anxious or takes away your peace of mind may not be right for you. But what brings you peace of mind while doing it, might just point you to the area you need to consolidate on. It may not even be massive at the moment, but if that is your purpose and you pursue after it with commitment, determination and perseverance, it will become great someday. Always remember that the future of a seed lies in planting it. In the same way, your purpose will only flourish when you discover and then put actions towards it.

Another way to discover where your purpose hinges on is to critically analyse people's honest opinions and pay attention to what they say about you predominantly. When everyone is saying the same thing about your ability, there may be some truisms that you can pick from it. Trust me, everyone cannot be saying the same thing and all of them will be lying. So what people normally say about you can be a good pointer to your purpose. For example; they may be saying something like "you are funny, you will make a good comedian." This can point you towards pursuing a career in the entertainment industry. You have to be attentive to people's honest advice and opinions to help you discover and align with your purpose.
