Having A Good Attitude And Becoming A Better Human
A few days back, a friend of mine, while discussing with another friend, made a very wise statement, he said: "there is no award for being rude," and I see truism in it. Many people hide under the guise of trying to be real, or trying to be straightforward and become rude. The truth is that, no matter what you are about to say or do, there is still a better way of saying or doing that thing. As a matter of fact, it shows a height of lack of emotional intelligence to say things the way you want without factoring the emotions of the receiving party. You can still make your statement without being rude and it will still drive home your points.
Just to let you know, the words you speak and the actions you take are products of choices and they reflect your true nature more than the person the actions are done to or the words are spoke to. It is true that all of us process anger differently, but one thing is sure, you will also be responsible for your actions even if they are triggered by anger. This is why you should not allow anger and emotions to becloud your actions. It is worthy to note that everyone has emotions, so why do you think that your own can be made to superimpose on other people's own.
Before you say something or before you act, you should take out a few moments to think about it. First think of the results then think of the necessity of such words or actions. That you treat others with a fair attitude does not mean that you are weak, obviously strength is not a function of cruelty. Even as a leader, you should also know that leadership does not call for cruelty on your followers or subordinates. You can still maintain your fairness of attitude and still make a very brilliant and excellent leader.
If your followers do your biddings out of fear, then you have failed as a leader because you are more of a dictatorship ruler. You do not need to remind your subordinates that you are the leader through being inhumanly harsh to them. As a matter of fact, if you come to point that you remind your subordinates that you are the leader, then you are already doing terribly bad as a leader and you might have even lost your leadership position without knowing. There is always a way to motivate your followers and your subordinates to do your biddings and put in their very best beyond your imagination by employing emotional intelligence, incentivisation, etc, without being inhumane.
Even in your everyday dealings with people, you should try to wear a good attitude. Trust me, no one was born with a good attitude, it is only a choice that people made which you can make too. I am sure that you will want others to treat you with a good attitude, you should also do the same to others. You may not agree with someone's point of view and you may not even be comfortable with their ideas, but it does not mean that you should treat them rudely. A lot of people have missed opportunities by being rude, and a lot of others have gained opportunities and favour by being of a good attitude, so make your choice.
I once read a story of a man that was going for a contract bidding. He charted a tricycle and on the road, it started to rain heavily. The man had to move to the center seat of the tricycle so that the rain coming in from the both sides of the tricycle will not beat him. Along the road, there was a man whose car broke down at the middle of the road but he needed to get to his office for an important meeting but the rain was much. He hailed down the tricycle and when he stopped, as he was about to enter, the man at the back shouted at the rider to move the tricycle that he cannot shift for the man, as the rain will beat him, and he said it with a rude attitude. Even after the man explained that he was already late for a meeting, he refused, and then the rider moved on.
When the man got to the venue of the contract bidding, he was told that the boss is yet to arrive and that they should wait for him. A few minutes later, the boss came in and to his surprise, it was the same man that he refused to shift for inside the tricycle. He did not need any soothsayer to tell him that he has lost the contract. Imagine if he had done that singular favour that day, he would have just won the heart of the man and the contract would have been awarded to him and even many other ones in the future, but he close that door of opportunity by being rude.
As we live our lives daily, we should try to be good, both in our actions and our words. You will become a better human by being good. Always remember that you can be good if you choose to, so make that choice today and see how beautiful life can be.
