Having The Right Location For Your Business

Having a good Business idea is not the only requirement to having a successful business. After you have conceived your idea and have figured out when to start, your next step is to discover the right location for your business. Situating the right business in a wrong location may hamper the growth of the business. But when the business is situated in a right location, there will be an ease of execution. You will agree with me that what works in one location may not be feasible in another location, so as a business person, you do not have to run a business because of what someone else is doing, but you have to do your own feasible studies.

A very remarkable thing happened a few years back when I finished from school. I went into fishery business with my friends just to keep busy till we could find somewhere for our normal internship program. During the few months we ran the business, it opened me up to know how important location is to business growth. We used both plastic ponds and tarpaulin ponds for the fish. The plastic ponds were smaller while the tarpaulin ponds were much bigger. We ordered the same species of catfish at the same time and put some in the plastic ponds while the rest were put in the tarpaulin ponds. However, we discovered that the fish that were kept in the small plastic ponds did not grow as big as the ones kept in the bigger tarpaulin ponds.

After few weeks, the size became noticeably different that they looked like both ponds were stocked differently but they were indeed stocked the same time with the same species of catfish. When I explained to another of my friend about my discoveries, he came to inspect the fish and from what he saw, he quickly told me that the difference in size is because of their different locations. He went further to explain to me that location matters and the fish in the tarpaulin pond grew more because it provided them with a more conducive environment. This opened my understanding to the fact that location is part of what makes for either the success or failure of a business.

Imagine if you want to situate a business that deals on the servicing of cooling devices like air conditioners and freezers, but you take the business to the ice regions like the polar caps, do you think the business will grow? Obviously they do not need air conditioners because they already experience intense cold, and there will not be any one to service. But if you start the same business in a place that is very hot, the business will boom because they will need air conditioning system to cool their homes. So you see, you need to put location into consideration when starting a business.

We all know that if a fish is taken out of its natural location and put in a desert, it will not be long and the fish will die. In the same way, when you put a land animal inside the water, it will struggle to survive. But if you put each of them in their respective natural locations, they will thrive well. Similarly, what makes your business to thrive well also includes the location of your business. One thing to also know is that location may not be permanent and as the world evolve, there may be new requirements that will be met. So you should be sensitive to know when you should stay in a particular location, how long you should stay, and when you should move.

A friend of mine that is into the sales of academic materials like books, stationeries, etc, got a perfect spot for his business - in front of a school. His business began to boom and he made so much sales because the kind of business that he deals in was what the school needs and they patronized him. After a few years, the school completed their permanent site and moved from that location. He looked at the structure he had built there and decided to stay back. His sales so much dropped that he quickly realized that the spot was no longer the right location for his business, so he had to relocate and found another spot near the school again, and his business picked. This proved that even though a location may be right at a time, it may not stay right for ever. So you should be know when the location is or not. In conclusion, while planning for your business, you need to put location into consideration.
