Mentorship As A Strategy For Lasting Success

It does not matter how much you have acquired and what you think you have achieved, if you do not have anyone to take after you, then your success is questionable. If all the inventions you see today ceased with the passing away of their inventors, then you would not have met them today. There is a whole lot of products in the market that their founders have long gone, but because they were able to mentor others in the business, the products were sustained. Do not be centered on only yourself when you achieve success, also try to raise others and you will be surprised how much of yourself you will be able to replicate in people.

By helping people to achieve success does not make you less successful. In fact, if you are the only one that is doing well among your friends without showing others the way for them to do well too, then you are not a good friend. What is the point of having a multi billionaire in a neighbourhood and others are paupers? It is better the wealth is distributed by helping to raise others too. Not only would you have replicated your success in others, but you would have reduced the burden on your shoulders, and also made the world a better place. The reason why your success came is not for you alone but to also use it to raise others to become successful.

Even in business, nothing stops you from helping at least one person to gain mastery in your line of trade, and the person will also train someone else, and before you know it, many successful people would have emerged from you. Do you know the level of joy that comes when you see people become successful by reason of you replicating your own success in them? A particular tribe in Nigeria; the Igbos of the Southeastern extraction, are predominantly known for this kind of business model. A successful businessman would look out for a young boy, for example, and absorb him into his line of business and coach him for a few years, after which he will be "settled" when he had gained extensive knowledge of the business.

The newly settled guy will start his own business, applying the knowledge he had gained from his master and will also achieve the same result. When he gains mastery, he will also look out for a young boy to put into the same line of business. The process keeps repeating. This is why that particular tribe has produced so many successful businessmen and the wealth is distributed, not centralized in just one hand. When you help others to succeed, then that is the true definition of success. The joy of getting blessed is when you use it to bless others as well.

You may not know the benefits of the acts of goodness you are doing now until later in life. There was this man within the neighbourhood where I grew up, who had the burden to lift up a couple of young boys around him in his line of trade. He traded motor spare parts in one of the major markets in the Southeastern part of the country, and became successful in it. As a way of giving back to the community, he absorbed some boys and started teaching them how to trade the motor spare parts too. In less than 7 years, the young boys became masters and started their own shops and doing very well. Within the neighbourhood, they also started training other boys. What started small grew very large simply because of one man.

A few years later, the man had a health challenge and needed a huge amount of money for surgery abroad after spending some substantial amount within the country. Just a little mention of it, the young men that he raised rallied around and raise over 3 times the amount he needed. He was wowed! Imagine if he did not raise them, there will be no one to help raise him in his moment of need. If you help someone to achieve success, it is never wasted because someday, and somehow, it will come back to you. Even if not you directly, then someone connected to you - your children, etc, will benefit from it. So when you achieve success, what you should think of is how to use it to benefit humankind and also help others to be successful.
