When Your Expectations Meet Your Preparedness

I used to hear people make some comments about expectations; "that you can only achieve what you have expected." Well, I agree with that, but beyond expectations, you need to be prepared for the things that you want. There may be a support that you have been hoping on in the pursuit of your dreams, but have you asked yourself if you have gotten yourself ready to welcome the support? There are some people that if you grant them their expectations, they will be crushed under the pressure of them because they have not built capacity to handle them. So the first step is to grew capacity to handle what you desire.

One of the ways to develop and grow your capacity which will get you prepared for your expectations is through learning. Success in life is not entirely a function of how big or lofty your goals are. Of course you need to have big dreams to motivate you. But beyond that, success is also a function of the depth of your preparation, learning and training. Imagine someone that is hoping to go into cab business but cannot drive. Even if the desires of getting a car to be used as cab becomes actualized, he has still not fulfilled his goals because he cannot drive. So he would still need to learn how to drive to maximise the expectations.

You do not achieve greatness by simply having goals, neither do you achieve success by dreaming about it, but all these should be propelled by a lot of other things which include; knowledge, skills, learning, dedication, commitment, etc. If a farmer dreams of having a bountiful harvest, it does not stop there because the harvests will not just fall from the sky. The farmer has to engage his farming skills, including planting of the seeds and observing other farm practices. When he has done all these, then his expectations of having a bountiful harvest will be substantiated. If he continues to dream and wish, he will end up without harvest.

It is true that there is something that needs to guide you towards the fulfilment of your dreams; that thing is your expectation. But much more than that, it is what you do and the actions that you take that will show if you are really prepared for what you want. When someone wants to build a house and after they have made an architectural drawing of it, the house will still not be seen until the action of building has been done. So the civil engineer has to be prepared to put to practice the ideas of the architect to produce the desired structure. You may not even have the most brilliant dream ever, but your execution can make your own to stand out.

I once read about the story of Hussein Bolt and how he ascended onto the top of his field and became the world's fastest man. He was born like any other kid but he decided to make impact in his world. He was committed to training himself to prepare himself for what lies ahead. In fact, he put in so much efforts that he had more time to train that he had for other things. Cumulatively, he trained for days and for many miles just to prepare himself for a race of just 100meters. It is true that he expected something good from the race, but he did not just rely on that, he had to put extra effort to be prepared for what will come. No wonder he became among the greatest athletes that ever lived.

In every aspect of the human life, your actions are what will give validity to your ideas and your goals. For example; knowing something without putting it to practice will not substantiate the knowledge. Similarly, having a big expectation of you achieving something great, without putting any action towards it, will not be any different from someone who does not have any expectation at all. Dreams without actions can be likened to having a pond without water in it. It is when your expectations meet your preparedness and your actions that your success will be achieved. Always have in mind that you are the one to create the actualization of your success by your actions.

Peace on y'all
