Painting should be censored not banned

Greetings!

Freedom is something that we all wish for in this life as it helps us not to be penalised for our doings, either good or bad. But one thing is that as good as freedom is, it can be so dangerous if not used or applied with caution as people would because they would not be punished for their offences and do anything they like all in the name of freedom.

Having said so much about freedom, I would like to delve into the topic of the prompt which is all about, “Free speech.”

Free speech can be said, but the outcome might not be guaranteed after the speech. This is the saying of a dictatorship head of state who didn't really believe in what is called freedom of speech. However as regards the topic of the prompt before me today, I would say that if a painting as a free speech is being used in the public space, it should not be banned when it is used in the right manner and this is because of the moral message it might be passing across to the people in the society.

However, if such a message being passed across by the public painting is not promoting peace in the society, I think such a painting should not even be considered under the law of the freedom of speech before it would would be step down and cleared off and this is because of the fact that, the implication of such a message can be so dangerous to the peaceful co-existence of the society thereby causing chaos in the public space.

Furthermore, there should always be a law guiding what kind of painting that should be allowed in the society and the reason being that, such law would help to censor and check the kind of what would be painted for public consumption and if such a painting would not mean well for the society, then the body saddled with such responsibility would rise up to the occasion and block such painting into coming to the public space.

Doing this would go a long way in bringing sanity to the public space and I also believe that this would not jeopardize the existence of such a law that guides the freedom of speech, what it would just do is to serve as a clause to the law.

In my own opinion, anything that would not bring peace to the society should not in any way stand or hide under any law of the land, and that's why there must be a clause to every law most especially, when it comes to the law that has to do with the freedom of speech. At times, anything that has to do with freedom can be so dangerous depending on the kind of people that were to be given the said freedom.

In conclusion, the said freedom of painting should not be banned, but if its message can be so dangerous to the society, a measure to check and censor the message must be put in place.
