The community development

Greetings!

Life to me is all about love and this must be shown not to one, but to all, which means this said love that rules the world must not be limited to a particular person or section of the society.

In this life , I have seen people looking down on another person most especially when they are well to do and are financially able and maybe the other person is just languishing in abject poverty. Well, such in life, but this is not what real love is preaching to us or trying to make us understand.

All I have been saying all this while is from my own personal experience. This happened to me some years back. Immediately I lost my mum to the cold hand of death. Although, it's as if we were that rich when my mum was alive, but one thing I realised back then was that we are not full, and not hungry either.

However, in our neighbourhood in those days, there's this family that was well to do, the Ayorinde’s family. This family were known for their wealth and power in the neighbourhood, but one thing that didn't make sense about them is that they are proud and would always look down on people in the neighbourhood as fake to them.

So, seeing this while growing up, I decided to make up my mind to be successful in life and that in my own case, I would help those that are in need. I made the promise to myself just because I didn't like how these people used to treat people in the neighbourhood.

So, I said to myself, “Sam, as you can see, these people are really blessed, but they are not doing the right thing with the blessings of God on them, make sure you work hard and be successful in life in order to right their wrongs.”

These were the words I soliloquised to myself and this was the beginning of me trying to liberate myself, family and the entire community from the Ayorinde's family who had thought nothing good would come out of the community except from their end.

After all I had have in plan, I went to my mum to discuss everything with her and she said,

“Sam, I know that you are a good boy and ever since I gave birth to you, I have known you to be a courageous boy who would stand against all odds to defend and liberate his people and I now believe the time has come to do what you are sent to do in this world.” “Thank you ma,” I replied. “ You don't need to thank me as that is who you are and I promise to stand by you,” she said. “Okay ma,” I replied.

After my mum had said this, I felt within me that all was set for the task ahead and I began studying hard to gain admission into the university to study the course of my choice which was law. As God would have it, I passed all the exams needed for studying the course in the university and I was admitted into the university to study my most preferred course which was Law.

So, when I got the admission notification from the school, I was happy and I quickly rushed home to break the good news to my expectant mother who had been waiting for the special day. When she heard the goodness, she jumped for joy and it's then she reiterated her past promises to me.

My mum said,

“Sam, I remember my promise to you today and I promise not to renege on all the promises.”

When I heard this from my virtuous mother, I was so happy and I thanked her for being my support pillar. Also, I thanked my star for giving me such a wonderful and supportive mother.

Immediately we had the conversation, we started preparing for the resumption and it was glorious for me as I was moving out of the neighbourhood with my travel bag with me. Those people who were not being treated well by the Ayorinde's were happy to have me going to school, some even gave me gifts of money and materials out of their hard earned money. They were so happy for me and I can see hope in their faces.

When I got to school, I met with a new set of people and I was happy I'm on my pedestal to success and on the journey of liberating my people. The journey began with a lot of hope and expectations all through my first year.

However, when I got to my second year, I received bad news of the death of my support pillar from home and on receiving the news, I was downcast and it's like the world of my dream has come to an end.

I went home to attend her burial and it's a pathetic scene to behold. People were crying and others were wailing as her body was lowered to beneath the earth, it's a really sad moment for me and everyone that has come across her path in life.

After the burial, I decided to go back to continue with what I had started, but it's in my going back that I realised that there's no one to cater for my fee again. I thought of so many options, but I couldn't get a positive answer from within me.

One of the options was to go to the Ayorinde's to solicit for help and since I had no choice, I took the bull by the horn and went there, but on getting there, the response was negative and it's at this juncture that I decided not to pursue my dream again as there's no financial capacity for me to carry on.

I spent days at home and when people were asking me who had kept me at home, I would not answer them.

It's a close friend of my mum who came to have this kind of a heart to heart talk with me that I opened up to and she was the one who helped me to convince the community to be of financial assistance to me and that's how my community sponsored me throughout my law education.

After years of my graduation, I gave and I'm still giving back to the community most especially in the area of raising their wards to become what they had wanted to become in life and now in my community, we now have more successful people other than the Ayorinde's who are no more what they used to be.

Thanks for reading.

This was so satisfying to read, especially with the part that the Ayorinde's now see that something even better can come out of the community.
Sorry about your mum who couldn't get to see these happen.
