The rare privilege
Greetings!

Sometimes ago, when everything was not working well for me, a friend of mine called me and I went him and on getting to his place, he asked,
“Sam, what's actually going on with you?” “Nothing,” I answered. “How do you mean, nothing?” He asked.
It's then I opened up to him and said, Ola, I have been going through hell in recent times and I can just say this is what's happening.
Everything I have invested in is not moving as it's supposed to. I'm seriously tired, this is what I told this my friend and in response to what I told him, he said,
“I know you are not really doing fine and that's why I asked you to see me so that we would be able to find a lasting solution to your current situation.”
After he had said this, I thanked him and it's after that that we started our discussion. In our discussion, he said he knew me to be a business minded person and that since all my investments were not working, he thought that I should try another side of life which is working for someone.
Hmmm, “I have not worked for anyone in my life and I don't think that I would be working for anyone soon,” I said. “Why?” He asked. “Well, it's not because of anything, just that I believe in working for myself and making my profit,” I replied. “Okay, but I think you should give it a try and see what it would look like and if it's something you can do, then you can quit it anytime you want, but I promise you will enjoy it,” he said. “Okay, I will give it a try,” I said. “Where do I start from,” I asked. “There's this teacher's recruitment going on in this state, I will help you apply for it and with prayer and proper connection, you will get the job,” he said.
So, that was how he started applying for the job for me, even when I was not so interested in the job, but as for him, he took it seriously and made sure that my application was successful.
It's after he had told me that the application had been successful that he sent me all the details of the application. Lest I forget, Ola, also applied for the same Job as he was already working for a private school and just because of the recruitment process going on in the public work, he also decided to apply.
So, after the successful application, some of the applicants were shortlisted for the next phase of the recruitment which was the examination phase.
At this stage, we were told that we would be answering 50 questions on the subject applied for. So, when Ola heard about the update, he quickly called me and updated me. He said he has started reading and that I too should start preparing for the exam.
However, after he had dropped the call, I went back to playing the chess game I was playing with another friend of mine and I was not so serious about the exam unlike Ola who was so determined about the exam and the job as well.
So, fast forward, the exam date came, and I and Ola went to the centre of the exam together. It's on my way that I was scanning the likely question that I may encounter in the CBT examination hall.
When Ola saw me scanning through my books, he was moved with disappointment for me as he was not so sure if I would pass the exam after how he had worked hard to apply for the job for me, but he kept quiet as he didn't want to offend me, but I can see it on his face and even with his body language.
After we had got to the venue, we went into the examination hall, and to be sincere, the exam was not easy at all, but I managed to answer the one I knew. After the examination, I went out of the examination hall and I met Ola who was so happy with the way he had answered the question. He was so sure of passing the examination even in flying colors.
We both left the venue of the examination and a week later, the results of the examination came out and I passed with over 65% and I quickly called Ola to share the good news with him.
It's in our conversation that I realized he was not as happy and active as he used to be. I asked him as to why he was not that happy and he told me that he didn't do well in the examination result.
He said that the most painful thing was that after he had prepared so well for the examination, he still failed.
When he had said all these, I felt so sorry for him and consoled him. I told him there's still better days ahead for him and he said he also believed that God's will would surely come to pass in his life.
After all the processes which included the interview, I made it to the final shortlist and I was eventually employed and that's how I became a teacher and a civil servant. I really love it as it gives me the opportunity to still do my business. I'm also happy that Ola has travelled abroad in search of greener pastures.
Thanks for reading.
