A New Lesson from Can't Hurt Me by David Goggins

Hello everyone,
Welcome to a new lesson from a book I reviewed on March 17, 2026. I will shed more light on what I learned from the book. So today's writing will be another lesson concept from the book Can't Hurt Me by David Goggins, but the new lesson will be from the quote in the book:
If you would like to read the previous book review I wrote in the past, one with a different quote from the same book, here is the link:
The quote above from the book Can't Hurt Me by David Goggins discusses the danger of being comfortable. David Goggins believes it is dangerous to get too comfortable with where one is. You start to wonder what makes such comfort so dangerous. Why is it that when I am comfortable, I am in danger? Well, it is about the limitation that comes with one being relaxed, especially when you no longer push yourself to strive for me. It is about the difficulties that make you who you are.
The premise of this ideology also revolves around the idea that being comfortable can be dangerous due to the fact that there is not much to fight for. You do not know the full potential that lurks within you since you have chosen to be relaxed with where you are. You accept where you are without any form of pushback. Well, if you understand where the author is coming from, that is, his background, you would understand why he refuses to accept the premise of being comfortable. He struggled with obesity before he decided it was time for a change for him. He took it upon himself that it was time for a change, and he did just that. Got in shape, became a Navy SEAL, and now an athlete with strong endurance and an ultramarathon runner. This is why he is not in support of being comfortable, and he says, “You are in danger of living a life so comfortable and soft that you will die without ever realizing your true potential.”***
Unattained potential is something that will always be locked away and never used until you decide it is time to unlock it. It can even be disturbing when you know that you are meant for more than what you are doing, and yet you cannot achieve or choose to settle. On second thought, I think the author is seeing being comfortable as a form of settling where one has refused to go beyond the confinement of their comfort and push for more. They have chosen to remain the way they are and not give the chance to explore what more they can do. Deep down, I share in the belief that there is more to what meets the eye when it comes to people. You can never know what one can truly accomplish until they put themself to the test or at least someone gives them that push. Do not settle for where you are and believe strongly there is more for you out there, then go get it. At least you can take David Goggins' word for it.

Huhm .... What a beautiful and deep piece this is. I as well love how you connected the dots, from Goggins words and then to his real life story. I enjoyed every bit of this writeup.
Indeed, growth often happen when we challenge ourselves, and comfort at times hold us back.
Thanks for sharing such a beautiful piece. It challenges even me.
